i have almost the same config as you.

* Operating System
#1: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
#2: Windows XP 32
* CPU
Core i7 975 Quad 3.33GHz
* Motherboard
ASUS P6T
* Graphics Card
NVIDIA GeForce 295 GTX
* Memory
12 GB DDR3
* Sound Card
#1: Realtek Audio
* LAN Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller

The freezes were caused by the LAN Contoller, since the drivers were not the latest. I updated, the freezed only occured after 12 hours of hard LAN action.
Since the latest optional windows update, that updated also the Realtek LAN driver, the freezes are gone. Hope they do not return!

Try to update or disable the LAN driver and see if the freezes occur.

My freezes are ridiculous. Windows 7 is simply useless; I can not even run it for 5 minutes.
No blue screens etc., just the freezes people have been reporting.

My configuration is in my profile but to save you the trouble:
* Operating System
#1: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
#2: Windows XP 32
* CPU
Core i7 975 Quad 3.33GHz
* Motherboard
ASUS P6T
* Graphics Card
ATI Radeon HD 5870 x2 (Crossfire)
* Memory
12 GB Corsair DDR3
* Sound Card
#1: Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Championship Series
#2: ESI Juli@ Professional Audio

I have updated everything of which I could think. I know that I have an exceptional configuration but it is all working together fine in Windows XP. But I can not rule out the possibility that one of these pieces of hardware has poor support for Windows 7, or poor support for 64-bit platforms, or both.

But the way it sounds, this is a Windows 7 problem.
How could such a severe bug make it to the market?
What can we do about it in the meantime?

I have been having freezes every time i tryed to do anything within windows 7. My event viewer said reset/device/raid0 and the event ID is 129. When it freezes this is what comes up. I am using the seagate disk wizard to kill the hdd fully and taking i back to the store i bought it from. Note that this is the 3rd hard drive in 2 months that has had an issues.

The other two were western digital cavier blue 320gb hard drives and both had bad sectors upon them right out of the box.

Because I dont use that much space I am looking to get an 80gb seagate from tiger direct tomorrow and when it comes I will reinstall windows 7 RC and see if it was the hdd.

If it wasnt then I guess it could either be my moutherboard sata controller or my 450watt PSU.

My pc specs are as follows "I cant find anything on my moutherboard so I am going to go to amazon and find the model there.

CPU Intel Q9650 Core 2 Quad 3.0GHz
Ram 2 sticks DDR2 Ultra 1gb each, 2 sticks OCZ Reaper 1gb each total 4gb DDR2
(Note that all of this worked in windows XP but xp messed up due to corupted HDD as mentioned before so i upgraded to windows 7)
GPU Nvidia Geforce 7900 GS 250mb ddr3 ram (again tested before and totally fine, has worked like a charm for over 3 years)
Moutherboard MSI P7N SLI-FI
HDD Seagate Barracude 500gb ST3500641AS-RK
Wireless nic D-LINK DWL-G510
Keyboard Logitech G11 kayboard (downloaded the drivers off of the site and it worked fine"
Mouse Razer Diamondback 3g (again worked perfectly fine when i got the drivers)
Mousepad Cyber Snipa Tracer (didnt come with drivers it just glows)

I am probably taking back the barracuda due to it having a blue screen on it as soon as it was switched on before even loading windows 7 "it was an open box at a store here so i thought I would give it a try"

Now I dont believe that getting 3 bad hard drives in a row is entirely possible. I however do not have toe currency at the moment to go bying all new parts. Parts as mentioned before all came up clean as a friend checked them all out himself with more then one application at his disposal.

I will mention that the PSU I have makes an aweful buzzing sound at startup but goes away and is quiet as a mouse through the 12 hour + of gameplay. I use this computer ONLY to play world of warcraft. I dont play any other games Nor do I cruise the internet except to check facebook and play farmville once per day. I dont install anti-virus or anything because as mention before, I dont go to any websites but one reputable one.

None the less I have checked my pc many times with anti-virus programs that a friend lent me and again, my compy came up clean.

I dont know what is going on with my system. My drivers were all updated with the windows updater. Everything worked good until the first hard drive started making that bad sound. From then on my computer has been unstable. I am going to be purchasing a new 80gb hard drive seagate off of tigerdirect tomorrow so lets hope it arrives and is good. If it messes up then I know for sure it is somthing else like my PSU or Moutherboard.

My question is, can a PSU that is going out cause a HDD to work improperly? Example give it bad sectors or cause it to just freeze? Can this be my sata controller on my moutherboard that needs its drivers updated?

Can this be a bios update that needs to occur?

Please also note that I own the Xion case that came with 3 fans and a 450 WATTpowersupply. My computer is on my desk next to my 28" I-INC flat screen dispplay monitor. There is alittle dust however it doesnt seem to be running hot due to the speedfan thing saying is fine. So I dont think air circulation or heat is the cause. The last HDD thats in there runs cool to the touch.. Both speedfan and some other diagnostic program said the HDD was perfectly fine. So if anyone reads all of this and has any pointers when I get my new HDD from tiger, let me know. My system looks awesome and runs great then it is running.

So I've been having these freezes everytime my internet connectien gets high volume of traffic. So when I'm downloading something and the download speed is near 500KB/s (about 1MB is max - 10mbit connection) windows will certainly freeze. I tried it out with setting limits to download/upload to 300 and 500 KB/s and it crashed at 500, worked fine with 300 for some 20 minutes or so. I tried the workstation fix but it crashed after i removed any speed limits, don't really know if it was the right thing to do in this case... If anyone does, however, I beg you to post some :D

Edit: Nevermind, every new thing seems to work for a day or even a week then its back to same old freezing. I give up, screw this windows 7 crap im going back to vista.

Did you update you BIOS to the latest firmware? SOME Asus boards have had freezing problems until the latest BIOS update was installed.

Yes but last bios driver is from november 2008, and latest lan driver is from september 2007.

I fear that asus will do absolutely nothing since my motherboard is old and cheap. (P5K)
So my only hope is some kind of windows update fix thing :p
I'll just use vista for now, it works anyway.

Sorry to hear that, maybe this time you ought to try a Gigabyte motherboard.

In my opinion, they're the best buy for the money and very stable.

Hi, I was desesperate since I had already tried a lot of stuff, and I have had this random freezing problem for months, at the begining not to often but lately every two hours or so... I also read this post enterely and tried almost everything posted here.
Finally, I seems that what it solved my ramdom freezing problem was to set memory voltage from 1.86 v to 1.9 v!!! mmm... really easy but never tought about memory voltage!!... so far my computer has been running now 48 hours and I hope I'm not tempting fate by writting this post. I hope this helps someone else and I'll post again in case it turns not to be a real solution.

My computer specs:

OS: Windows 7 RC 7100
Processor: AMD Phenom II 955 3.2 Mhz Black Edition
Motherboard: ASUS M4A79T DELUXE 790FX
Video Card: ASUS EAH4870 DK/HTDI/1GD5 RTL
Ram: MUSHKIN 2GB x 4 996601 R
HDD System: G.SKILL SSD 64G FM-25S2S-64GBF1 R
HDD Data: SEAGATE HD 1.5T|ST ST31500341AS 7K 32M
HDD Data 2: 2x1TB WD Caviar Black Raid 0 array

Hey Guys,

Let me add, I have the same "freezing" issue and have to re-boot each time. Fortunately I run two PCs so I have this one to save my butt, which is XP.
Could it be there's not enough on-board card memory for my GForce 8400 NVidia with it only having 256?
Also, I read were the lack of the latest Adobe Flash player was causing these issues.
Thanks for any help!

a fix for W7 freezing ????

Hi Gang,
For those of you experiencing a "freeze" issues while moving about in W7, I reported earlier that Adobe's recent release of it's latest "flash" player may resolve, at least in part, the freezing issue. I recently installed the recent release and have not have a freeze for a short while, which is an advancement.
This being the case, Now, I'll probably have one! LOL

You asked the same question on another thread.

Again, the answer is that the video card memory has nothing to do with how the driver functions with the GPU. Just install the latest nVidia driver. posted on the other thread, and you'll be fine.

Thanks, I didn't know that about the card mem. I have downloaded NVidia's specific drivers for my card and OS (W7-32). Also, I recently updated IE and Mozilla with Adobe's Flash player for W7- 32.
I'll see how this works.

Thanks again for your interest.

My FIX

Hello All,

Windows 7 64 bit, clean install

My LOCKUPS/FREEZING were due to a feature turned on in my bios.
DFI Lanparty Ultra-D Mobo

I turned off the Cool n Quiet feature in the BIOS and it's been at least 12 straight hours running it with no lockups. I think i'm free of the lockups.
You can use CPUZ from cpuid.com website to determine if your AMD processor is using Cool N Quiet.

UPSIDES:
It did force me to open up my rig and clean it all out and re-apply thermal grease to my CPU...also helped me to contemplate my existence and whether or not I would benefit from a new rig.

Hope this helps anyone else.
More info on this feature:
http://forums.legitreviews.com/about22979.html

I was violating half the instructions in that post, so i just said fudge it and disabled the feature.

Solved....

hi,
i had the same problems.
after reading all the postings here i also went to this post.

i solved my problem with setting correct DRAM-Settings: i have 8GB
kingston and the manufacture site give me the setting 5-5-5-15 and 2.3V.

the posting of "Smoothf1" is correct: sometimes the auto-settings in the bios
are not windows7 conform... i am working now with the new settings since
1hour and i had no freez anymore.. i hope this situation does not change ;)

but after reading all this "strange" things with changing power settings and so on...
i prefer: first check your bios DRAM settings...

best wishes,
micha
