Hello, I want to know if microsoft did put out an email program for
windows 7 64 bit? I tried outlook 2001, but found it bulky and a lot
of functions I'd never would use. I just want a simple Microsoft email
program like outlook express 6 TIA
People are hacking OE or WM into W-7. We just hate the new MS 'Windows
Live Mail' that works on W-7 so we rarely use the W-7 PC. We both get a lot
of email and both use Usenet. I'm still using Vista and my spouse is using
the old XP PC. Neither of us like W-7 much. Too many confusing changes
that we didn't find helpful in any way. Too many "access denied" popups.

Yes, I agree entirely with the assessment of WLM, which I used for a total
of a week when I got Windows 7. I switched to Thunderbird for email and
news groups and currently am fairly satisfied.
It's not as easy to use or learn as WLM or OE. I didn't like it at all so
stayed with the Vista PC. I'm thinking maybe I'll just use W-7 for my
graphics work since it's just sitting here in the home office collecting
dust.

If you want to use WLM for e-mail, that's fine and dandy, but please use
something else for newsgroups. At least use something that quotes
previous text properly if you don't feel like manually correcting what
WLM screws up.
Perhaps you can explain how we can hack OE or WLM into W-7 to where it will
work. I followed all the steps and it wont open in W-7 although Task
Manager says it's running. It runs but it's no visable.

If Windows 7 won't do it on its own, you always have WinXP mode
as an alternative environment to use.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/features/windows-xp-mode

I have no idea, what programs will or won't work with that. So
it's just a theory.

Buying an Anytime Upgrade to bring your Windows up to the version
that will run WinXP Mode, basically doubles the money Microsoft
is getting. So this isn't typically "free". For example, my new
laptop doesn't have a sufficient version so I can try that. I'd
basically be paying for an OS twice if I were to upgrade.
So in effect, you're "buying" a copy of WinXP, without knowing
whether it will solve your problem or not.

Even the earlier versions as far back as1.xx..... were highly praised.
I still have ver. 2.0 on another box....

I had problems with Agent. I couldn't insert images in email. And doing
Usenet was the pits. Everyone seems to have one of these Email/News
programs they love. The rest of us, used to OE and WM for many years, can't
seem to switch. I tried Agent and several others and disliked them all
intensely.

You can try Windows Live Mail 2009. It can be adjusted pretty much the
way you like. I would stay away from 2011.
Thunderbird is okay if you like it.

I'm downloading it on W-7 here as I type this. I hope it's more like OE or
WM than the newer versions. ;-)

Have you worked your way through any lists ?

I also hate Thunderbird. I couldn't find a way when I used it to
killfile anyone.
EH? Does nobody LOOK any more? Right-click on the sender, choose "Create
filter from". Default action is delete message.
Simples.

Well if you're using Windows 7 Professional or higher you can always use
the OE that's in XPMode.

Your best bet if you don't want to use OE that's in XPMode is to
downgrade your WLM to the 2009 version. At least it quotes text better
than the 2011 version does. If you need the installer, you can get it here:

That's what message filters are for. If you had asked on a newsgroup,
someone would have been more than happy to tell you how to do it. The
easiest would be to highlight the message in the message list pane, then
click Message - Create Filter From Message. There you can specify to
delete, mark as read and a number of other options.

Do you know why MS arranged it so that people cannot use OE or WLM on W-7?
I think you're a little confused on names. Windows Live Mail (WLM) does
work on Windows 7, it's Windows Mail (WM) that doesn't.

Not necessarily, you can always go with a third party virtual machine
software like VMWare Player or VirtualBox. Only problem is that you'll
need a licensed copy of Windows XP to use with the virtual machine software.

If by WLM you mean Windows Live Mail, you can use it on Windows 7. You
just have to download it. As for OE and WM (Windows Mail for Vista) I
assume MS didn't think it worth the time, effort and money to try to
make old products work with a newer operating system.

I've been using Thunderbird happily for a very long time, a natural
progression from Netscape Communicator (although I've also checked out
OE, WordPerfect's Mail program, and Evolution over the years).

Since when has Windows Mail not worked on Windows 7?

All you need is a Vista PC and a USB memory stick to copy
the Windows Mail folder to.
