The answer is much simpler - and more embarrassing - than that. I simply
forgot to click the Sig icon before clicking Send.
And I almost always top-post. And I try to stay out of top/bottom post
arguments.
Let's try it on this one...

didn't end up at the bottom of the post. It ended up at the bottom of
your contribution, but since you top posted, the rest of the post
falls below your sig. That's not proper client behavior.
