Except for those of us who disabled that feature.

I prefer the Control Panel icon to open the Control Panel. No reason,
just individual taste. Also, my flyout menu is a bit taller than my
screen anyway.
While playing around with Control Panel and its settings due to
this thread I've noticed something a bit odd here.
On my folders I have the menu bar always visible.
(Folder Options > View tab > Always show menus.)
In Control Panel's menu I select View > Status bar.
Now double-clicking anywhere on the status bar brings up the
Internet Security Properties dialog.
Is this normal?

Mine does the same. I have no logical explanation.

I can now make most folders do it, so it looks like an Explorer bug!
( I think I need to get out more. :) )

It works here as you said on the Control Panel, buyt I can't duolicte it
on ohter folders.

Me too, for sure. We could meet for coffee. Meet you half way, say
Arlington, Virginia?

My newsreader is set to highlight spelling errors. Either it didn't do
its job above, or there's a serious case of PEBCAK here :)

Try this: "but I can't duplicate it on other folders".

At first it seemed random but it is consistent if you know where to look!
When you open a folder the status bar is blank. To activate it select
a file or folder and a message appears on the left, '1 item selected'.
Now keep your eyes on the right side of the status bar and with the
mouse change the size of the folder's window slightly. Two very faint
vertical lines an inch apart appear in the status bar. Double-clicking
to the right of the lines brings up the same message.
It doesn't happen on the users folder.

Is Arlington, VA halfway? Jeez... let's make it a virtual coffee. :)

How could I have failed to figure that out on my own? I must be losing
it :)

Talk about an obvious sequence.

Good of you to have noticed that exact sequence. Probably if I had been
persistent, like trying it at random over a span of time, I might have
seen the dialog. But I doubt I would have figured out the sequence.

Thanks!

I just estimated that Arlington might be about 3000 +- 1000 miles from
each of us.

If I were as careful as you (see above) I would have tracked down where
my 12" globe is stored, and with a piece of string, I would have found
it to fair precision on a great circle. If I were more intelligent than
I am, I would use Google Maps or Google Earth :)

Of course, I would need to first find out where each of us lives.

England for you and Silicon Valley for me is probably good enough. But
really, Arlington, VA, will most likely suffice. I'm sure there's a
perfectly satisfactory virtual coffee shop there.
