It doesn't use NTFS? If not, which one does it use?
Hmmm...ReFS, but it seems it's only on Win 8 server.

????

What do you mean by "file system"?
The Task Manager is much better.
Part of "somewhat improved", yes.
Faster boot time
Irrelevant. You, the user, are still the choke point when it comes to
speed. Getting to that choke point sooner is not ma major ambition of mine.
Automatic program management (like a smartphone!)
Meaning what, exactly?
"Windows 8 has an antivirus present inside the kernel of the operating
system."
Just another layer of security, is all. Not a deal maker.

Faster boot time
This is only true, if you use a particular hibernation mode.

There is traditional hibernation, which stores everything in
a session in a hiberfile.

But, Windows 8 adds kernel hibernation, so just the OS is stored
in the hiberfile. And this is what accounts for the "fast boot"
to the empty desktop.

Because I use multi-booting on this computer, that is
not compatible with kernel hibernation, so I have to
turn the hibernation off. And then the boot time is
more "normal".

If you don't turn it off, you end up in a "boot loop", where
Win8 starts every time, and you can't get to the other OS.

I'm going to have to take exception to your
statement about Task Manager. It's *worse* than
the one on XP.

Just today, I had a total loss of control on my
Win8 PC. I was testing virtualdub, using a
filter with a memory leak (a leak that may be
on purpose, by the developer).

Fine, the OS runs out of RAM. The paged pool
consumption was very high. Task manager was
already running. And, when all hell broke loose...
I was not able to use the controls on Task Manager!

I could not do a clean shutdown. Not like on WinXP,
where Task Manager runs its own GUI elements, and
I've never had a problem killing stuff or
shutting down.

It seems the Windows 8 Task Manager, the GUI is part
of the desktop GUI, and if the desktop GUI is sluggish,
then Task Manager is also sluggish. And, useless...

So that's not a feature. The Win8 Task Manager is
"more of a bug" than a feature. I want a *reliable*
Task Manager to come back.
