Why I no Longer Use Windows 7.

Do they know how closely tied Gore is to Apple?
Probably not. He doesn't call himself "Apple Gore" (although it would be
punny).

But for those of us with a lot of software that will only run on
Windows, we're screwed.
Sure. I personally think a lot of software can be replaced with Open
Source versions but, if not, no sense in fighting it. If someone came to
me and told me he was heavily into PC Games (for example) I would suggest
Windows. Really not much of an option there. You might consider running
the Windows software in a virtual machine under Linux so you would be
secure on the Internet (not so much for games, though). But that's just a
suggestion.

Thank God we have Obama to save us now.
Oh yeah, Obama is *really* getting us out of the insane wars Bush got us
into. Every time I think that a president can't get worse than the last
one, they do. Neither the Republicans nor the Democrats are worth a plug
nickle in my estimation. It's insane to play the Republican/Democrat game.
Total waste of time, they're all bought and paid for by the same
lobbyists.

BINGO!!!!!!!!!! In asking some of my friends questions about computers
this past month, I find they know almost nothing. One friend doesn't
even have anti-virus software on her old XP PC. How does she do it?
When they have a problem they run them into the shop in town = $$$$.
They don't add software because they don't buy or download any. They do
email and surf the web... that's about it. So they're happy...........
And, if that's all you're doing with your computer (and that's all a lot
of people are doing with their computers), then you can install Linux and
not have to worry a about viruses or malware, or the registry getting
corrupted. You're friends would be the perfect candidates for Linux.

I feel sorry for you who thinks you have to lie to win an argument. None
of what you say about me is true.
This is all the Windows FUDites have, lies and character assassination.

Hi Polly. Want a cracker?
He does sound an awful like all the other WinTrolls. What, do they get
their bullshit piped into directly from Redmond?

R

You never know, the USA might win one if they attack Venezuela.
Except all our soldiers are protecting Middle Eastern oil fields. Mobile/
Exxon has to figure out which is more important, then maybe we'll go to
war against Venezuela, but not until Exxon gives our government their
marching orders.

R

RonB

If that were true, you can bet the farm that Bush and Cheney would have
made a really big deal out of it and they didn't. Course, you don't
address the fact that Spain caught all the Madrid bombers and the USA
only caught one of the people involved in 9/11.
And sure, WikiLeaks "verified" Bush's war propaganda. Right. Can I
politiely say, BULLSHIT.

Translation: the "Big Steel" has just lost the argument but his ego
won't let him admit it.
The Big Stool doesn't have enough intelligence to have an ego. He spews
mindlessly on demand, merely parroting his fellow WinTrolls. He is only
noteworthy for his innate instinct to commit acts of extreme stupidity.

RonB pulled this Usenet face plant:
Microsoft is becoming inconsequential. It still has desktops, and the
office suite and... that's about it, except for the XBox which...
As much as Microsoft bugs me, they are far from inconsequential, even
ignoring Windows (and MS Office and the "apps" that can be written with it).

I view them as a kind of vertical vendor, just another one on a crowded
playing field. Many big businesses buy into the "Microsoft stack".

It's a fairly legitimate business, and I wish Microsoft would stick to that,
rather than gavaging their OS down people's throats.
They're on the decline.
Not fast enough.

RonB formulated on Sunday :
Finding a place you can drive to that afternoon and pick one up. Let's
really be purposely obtuse here. Oh, you're already are doing that.
No, I'm not being purposely obtuse. I'm trying to understand why you
consider linux laptops hard to get - when I can find them for sale
online in about 15 seconds. What your really saying is that it's hard
to find a brick and morter location that sells them, and I would agree
with that. But, that's not the same thing as them being hard to get.

Is that the best you can come up with? So you think over 90% of computer
users, worldwide are ignorant? And most of the very successful
Sure. Computing is supposed to be a "geeky" and "technical" thing.

Knowing anything about it is supposed to SCARE people.

So the idea that you might have a wider view of things because you've
actually gone out and "test driven" other products is fairly alien. You
just take it for granted that the Microsoft experience is all that you can
ever hope for.

You are frightened by the Lemming FUD brigade into thinking that you
can ever only use MS Office. Perhaps you've been frightened enough by them
into thinking that you can only use IE too.
mega-corporations use Windows...are they too ignorant?
Mega-corporations don't use Windows for heavy lifting.

They use Windows for "being compatable" and desktop work where the cost
of an individual user being down for days with a virus is inconsequential.

Linux just does everything I need[...]
Your needs must be very rudimentary.
That's true of a lot of people actually.

Although what's still unaddressed is just what am I supposed to be
missing exactly? I've got copies of Windows 7 and Snow Leopard and no
interest in running either one of them. Linux simply does not look bad
next to them (despite all the lies to the contrary).

Take mini-dumps for
example. How on earth is an average person going to even begin to
figure out what he needs to download from Microsoft, just to
decode the minidump?
There' a simple tool for that purpose.

You can view Windows mini-dumps with Blue Screen View. it's freeware.
(Windows XP/Vista/Win7) BlueScreenView can read the MiniDump files of
both 32-bit and x64 systems.

http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html

BlueScreenView is a small (48 kb), freeware and portable application
that scans all of the minidump files that are created when Windows
experiences a “Blue Screen of Death”. It will display the information
about all the crashes in one table with the minidump filename, the time
and date of the crash, basic information about the crash (as in the BSOD
message) and the driver or module that possibly caused the crash.

BlueScreenView doesn't require any installation process or additional
dll files. In order to start using it, simply run the executable file -
BlueScreenView.exe.It automatically scans your MiniDump folder and
display all crash details in the upper pane.

Thank God we have Obama to save us now.
He probably can't given the mess he inherited and the republicans desire
to see the country collapse rather than work with a democrat.

Democrats control congress and have since 2007. Only democrats can stop
him from getting a bill to sign.
