I could see no relevance, but I tried it and it completely cleared the Start
window of all data and I could not see any way of replacing it other that
the Restore Point and that was successful. Back to square one.
A quick suggestion: get "Everything" a fast free search program at:
http://www.voidtools.com/

And enter the folder name that you are looking for.

Thanks a lot for that. It certainly finds the folder\file which you are
looking for and now I have to decide whether or not it is safe to delete as
it has identified several of identical names. I will take my time.

Just found by a test that the beauty of this software is that it deletes to
the recycle bin so any mistakes can quickly be rectified.

Before you delete it, remember to remove the permissions for
WMPNetworkSvc so it won't leave an orphaned entry in Desktop Background.

I do not have any idea what this about or how to access it.

As I explained before, you will find it by r-clicking on the folder and
selecting Properties, then Security, and you will need to Remove the
permissions of WMPNetworkSvc on the folder, as that is why you have the
entry in the list in the first place.

The folder name does not respond to anything whatsoever, other than to
highlight itself. It is empty and the only reference which I can find to it
is in regedit and there it is shown as located @ C:\Windows\System
32\wfsr.dll,.-20089. In System32 it is merely shown as wfsr.dll. I have
considerable doubts as to whether this is the same product and leave well
alone is advised.

The item you quote from the registry looks like an icon specifier. It is
NOT the name of a file. wfsr.dll *is* the name of a file.

I'm not quite right, but I'm close: in my registry the icon reference is
-128, but the values -25105 and -25106 refer to other resource items in
the file, namely the name and description.

A bit off topic, but I've always been curious why some resource
identifiers appear to be negative numbers. Perhaps it's simply a
matter of setting (or not) the high bit, which we perceive as negative
or not, or is it something else?

The C:\System32 WFSR.dll file description is: Windows Fax & Scan
Resources. It is an Application extension which was modified on 14|7|2009.
The empty and totally unresponding folder which I am trying to eradicate
from 'Picture location' in Windows Background is named 'Scanned Documents',
but it was only recently imported to there from My Documents via Pictures.
The Registry entry also refers to 'Scanned Documents'. Its Value Name is: @
C:\Windows\Systems32\wfsr.dll,-20089. Can you see any connection between
the The Registry file, the Systems32 file and my empty rogue folder.
Incidentally, the Registry file will not delete and the 'rogue' folder will
accept an image if I make a new 'Scanned Documents' folder in 'Pictures' and
place an image in it, but it will not delete.

Are you saying the folder doesn't exist but is only listed in the registry?

After you recreate the folder that is giving you grief, remove the
permissions as I described, BEFORE you delete the folder. The reason the
folder is listed is because of those read permissions. So remove the
permissions and the listing should go away, THEN delete the folder.

I've always assumed as you say, that it's a representation of a large
unsigned number with a signed format.

I never bothered to check it out, however :)

GMTA, I guess. :) Thanks.

The empty folder is in Picture Location and it is replicated with identical
wording in the registry.

I have created an identical folder (Scanned Documents) in Pictures, placed
an image in it and now the rogue folder (Scanned Documents) displays that
image and has this path: C:\Users\Emrys Davies\My Pictures\Scanned Documents
(1) the latter being the folder which I recreated. When I r.c. the rogue
folders path and select Properties then Security I cannot see anything like
you describe re- permissions. Would you be more explicit re- that? What
exactly am I to do as this is totally new ground for me?

Awhile back I learned that WE means Windows Explorer. Now I've learned
another new one: "r.c." means right click.

I wonder where the meetings are held when these creative shortcuts are
proposed. :)
