Wordpad annoyance

We've only had Win 7 machine for 3 weeks ... first time we've used
wordpad in ages ... always used either Office(word) or notepad.
Service pack 1 installed.
Will try the clean version as the XP version we tried didn't work,
same printing problem.
That's interesting: so the XP version worked in as much as it didn't
sulk and say it was for the wrong OS, but exhibited the same problem.
Suggests either it picked up the corrupted setting, or that that setting
is always so in 7: has anyone else here used Wordpad in 7, including
printing, and _not_ had the problem? (Sorry, not on a 7 machine ATM.)

Thanks , we are exploring other programs in case we can't get it
working ... added to the list to check out :)
I have stayed out of this discussion because I don't use either Wordpad
or MS Office. I use plain text as much as possible, but when I run
across a formatted document I have to read or print, I use the open
source Open Office suite. It is BIG, but it is free and available in
a portable version, so it shouldn't conflict with MS Office.

Yes, I tried it. It works fine here.
I'm wondering why I always use Word; have done for years and years.
Wordpad is less than 5MB in size.
When I have time I might give it a test run; see what it can/can't do.

Hello, a quick de lurk for an annoyance ...
Win7 Home premium 64bit ... now saving for new copy of Office (we have
Office XP, but want to upgrade).
Started using wordpad for small documents at the moment, but we get a
grey background printed on every document. Have tried printer
preferences, changing text colour, no joy.

Anyone have an idea ? ... have googled and found a few with the same
problem, but no real answers.

TIA
Just remembered I had Windows 7 on the netbook so tested printing
from WordPad out on my Canon printer. Everything looks good.

But this is a 32 bit Windows with presumably a 32 bit printer
driver.

Does your printer have a 64 or 32 bit driver installed?

If he's running 64-bit Windows, it's a 64-bit driver. A 32-bit driver
wouldn't work at all.

That fact is good to know. If I can't find a 64-bit driver for
my printer, I'd better not upgrade to Windows 7 64-bit.

Which printer do you have? I have no problem with my Canon MP560,
running on Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

Does 7 (64 and 32 bit, come to think of it) contain drivers for the old
"dot-matrix" (i. e. impact) type printers, such as lots of EPSONs,
Stars, and so on, or have they finally been put out to grass? (For that
matter, does it have a "generic text printer"?)

Two points:

1. Sometimes a Vista driver for a printer will work under Windows 7
(but again, you need the correct "bitness" of the driver).

2. Printers are pretty inexpensive these days. If the upgrade is
important enough for other reasons, it *might* be worth buying a new
printer if you need to.

Yes, there are a couple of generic drivers available. But what
printers they will work with, I don't know.

Do you still have a dot-matrix printer? My last one was dumped about
20 years ago.

There are drivers for generic text printer. I have one set to print to
file. There are drivers for 153 Epson models, but I don't know if any of
them are DMP.

Running 64bit Home Premium, driver is only available through Windows
updates, so I hope they gave us the 64 driver :)

She is running 64bit, we've even tried to force the old 32 bit XP
driver to see if the problem is the driver. It wouldn't work, but
getting even more annoyed about such a small .glitch

I took my Lexmark Z2300 series successfully from an XP machine to
Win7 Home Premium 64 bit.

The thing to do is to check online. I got the above webpage from
a Google search for "Lexmark Z2300 64 bit driver".

Thanks Dave and Ed, I checked online and 1 64-bit driver is
available for my Canon MG6100 printer/scanner.

As my printer is only 6 mos. old, it's fortunate I don't need to
replace it yet.

Sorry. I missed that. As I said, I haven't been following this thread
very closely.

The LX, LQ, FX, and others listing (80) (narrow) and (136) wide carriage
are supported DMPs.
