His HomeGroup doesn't have any PCs in it, like this one does.

Neither does mine. And when I click on the + next to Homegroup, the + just
goes away. Of course, that might be because I haven't joined Homegroup with
any of my PC's

I don't think his question/problem has anything to do with Homegroups.

YES! That's exactly what it is. He says "everything below Recent Places
is missing in the left pane. How do I get it back?". Look, it's up
there ^^^^

Favorites
- Documents
- Downloads
- Recent Places

Right above the word Favorites... click ORGANIZE
Choose "Folder and Search Options"
Navigation Pane - Show All Folders

I don't think his question/problem has anything to do with Homegroups.

Good call, because joining a Homegroup (or not) doesn't have any
effect on whether the Homegroup label will be visible in Win Explorer.

This can also be achieved by right-clicking in a blank area of the left
pane, then toggling the "Show all Folders" selection.
