Windows backup to DVD-RW

IIRC, you do that by first explicitly erasing the whole RW disc and then
writing the new backup - but it's been a few years since I switched to hard
drives, so don't necessarily trust what I say.

Yes, typically a quick erase will work, but every so often a full
erase will be needed, and eventually the disc will be unwritable.

Your last seven words (no OT references intended!) are exactly why it's
been a few years since I have used CD or DVD RW :)

I don't use them much, either. Once in a while I'll burn an XVID to
one to play on my secondary DVD player, but I hardly use that thing
anymore.

Although I really misspoke. I still do use RW discs, just not as backup
discs. And I also don't do it often, mostly just when I don't want to waste
20 or 30 cents on an experiment or a one-time thing :)
