Win7 Control Panel

I think everyone has missed what the OP was about. Normally, CP is
alphed across columns, which makes it extremely hard to find anything
..... in my opinion. Going to one column will make them alphed from top
to bottom. But what OP and I would like, is a way that it is alphed
down the 1st column and then continue down the 2nd column, etc.
I use Classic Windows Start Menu which does trat. Maybe Classic Shell
does too - I am not sure.

Welcome to Windows 7! :)
After using W7 since it was in alpha I should remember it all very
well. I only got W7 in the first place to make sure my software would
be compatible. My latest hardware came with W7 installed so I had to
get to it again! Windows 8 Developer Preview arrived a few weeks ago
but won't jump in the deep end this time!

I only abandoned Windows 2000 because my computer went belly up and it
was time for a replacement. Since W2K is no longer supported, and I
doubt that it would handle all the new hardware, I took the plunge. It
didn't hurt that I got Windows 7 Ultimate (x64, not preinstalled) for
free. :)

As mentioned, I quickly installed Classic Shell to make it look as much
like Windows 2000 as possible.

However, that trick indeed creates a vertical sorting :)
Well, in that case, the next time someone complains the font on their
monitor is too large, I'll suggest they walk away from the computer.

I find just pushing my chair back about one meter is adequate :)

I don't know if it is possible without a third party add on. I am
using
Classic Shell from Sourceforge, and it allows me to list all the
Control
Panel items in a single column sub menu of the Start menu.
Windows 7 does that without a third party add-on.

Right click on the start icon, properties, customize, check control
panel display as a menu.

There must be an echo in here!

Sorry, I didn't go through all the posts when I answered. Sorry if I
stepped on anyone's toes. Remember, no good deed goes unpunished.

OTOH, your first post finally caused me to try that display format,
just to see what it looks like (since I wasn't unhappy with the old
way).

Now I have a problem, though. Now that I've looked, I kind of like the
menu display, and I have to decide whether to keep it :)

I switched to it after reading the post, and decided to keep it.

Nice!

Now can you open up the "All Programs" display to a full page instead
of a single vertical column?

Well, you could experiment for yourself, or you could ask the person
who gave me the other clue.

Sure, create a shortcut to the 'Start Menu', and pin it to the taskbar.
