If you look at the paragraph entitled "Instructions", you will see the
Microsoft, themselves, refer to this as a public beta.

To be serious though ;-)

I'm not sure why 4 of the 5 files described in the "Instructions" section
should refer to installing the "public beta". Unless Microsoft are using the
term loosely (like me) or have forgotten to update these 4 lines.

However if anyone has (or is intending to) download one of the stand alone
installers (windows6.1-KB976932-xxx.exe) referred to on this page, be
assured that it will indeed install the RC and not the previous beta.

All that tells us is that it's (maybe) further refined than the rawest
betas. You can call whatever you want, but I believe it should still be
treated as if it were beta software. I doubt Microsoft will accept
responsibly and provide support for issues associated with anything
earlier than the official release.

I though my idea was a reasonable compromise for the sake of
communication. Sorry you didn't agree, but anyway, it's not clear that
we're all that far apart.

good at marketing marginally functional software.

MS is a business-oriented company which was good at the time and brought PC
to mass use; Linux is a nerd-oriented group which will remain forever as
