What are the news groups for Windows 8?

With that kind of behavior, be careful that you don't get yourself
labeled as a troll.
Last time I postulated that it was out of respect for Microsoft Corp.
This time I am wondering if being argumentative is considered to be
vulgar. Am I right that the group is US dominated? As you have
probably worked out, I am more used to the 'netiquette' of uk. groups.
Your new theory is just as bizarre as your last theory. Please let us
know when you decide to stop posting in a "deliberately controversial"
manner so that we can begin to take you seriously.
I shall hang about for a bit longer but will probably 'lurk' for a bit
to see how things are done - and certainly be more measured in
anything I post.
I normally do it the other way around: when subscribing to a new group
or forum, I lurk and read *first* in order to get a feel for the group
and it's personalities.

I shall endeavour to avoid that fate by trying to gauge the dynamics
of the group in future.

Such an ability is normally assumed in the readers of newsgroups. I
thought the need for emoticons was a thing of the past.

However :)

Duly noted.

I still consider the attitude in the last paragraph, which you
have expressed before, as totally bizarre. I see it as a leap of
gigantic proportions to a more or less random unfounded
conclusion.
Agreed.

As I hinted before, you should hang around a bit longer in this
newsgroup and try to acculturate. You might enjoy it better that
way.
Hmmmmm, while "Scott's" obnoxious first post and this latter one may
prevent him from fitting neatly into the group he does fit neatly into
my aptly named Bozo Bin....

I never said I did not agree. From all I have read (including on
this group) I have concluded that Windows 8 does not offer
benefits that would justify its installation on a PC without
touchscreen. I just put it a bit more succinctly.
No, you put nothing "succinctly." You made up a stupid story that had
nothing to do with the topic, contained no information, and did not
invite discussion of any kind.

You're a putz and a troll.

'Pile of junk' is more succinct than 'I have concluded that Windows 8
does not offer benefits that would justify its installation on a PC
without touchscreen.'

Are you saying I did not visit the computer shop last week and that
the chap there did not say words to the effect that Windows 8 was a
pile of junk?

'Persuade me' is a implied invitation to discuss.

I have reviewed my first post and I have to accept that describing any
product of such an illustrious organisation as Microsoft Corp as a
'pile of junk' is shameful and truly obnoxious. All Microsoft
products are engineered to the highest standards. Unfortunately their
efforts are not always fully appreciated - ME, Vista ...

At least one can say that this is amusing.

Your more serious recent post was actually more amusing to me :)

'Persuade me' is a implied invitation to discuss.
I view it as more of an implied invitation to persuade you.

But seriously, the thing you seem to be overlooking is that most of
the initial comments weren't passing judgment on Windows 8, but
instead were passing judgment on a shop that would evaluate a new OS
in just 20 minutes. That simply isn't enough time, and therefore it's
the shop, and not necessarily the OS, that should be avoided.

That's a fair point actually.

I have also looked at several reviews in computer magazines and at
Microsoft's website. I would certainly welcome the opportunity to see
the OS in action and will ask about after Christmas to see if Santa
has brought anyone a laptop with W8 preinstalled.

You know, Microsoft has made some free versions available, so if you
wanted to see it in action you totally could have...

I *think* they usually warn you not to use on a 'mission critical'
computer (which mine - as my only computer - is).

One can also say that if the shop said that, and Scott is merely
reporting it, why shoot the messenger? Shoot the shopkeeper instead.

Install it to a spare hard drive so you can get back to your current
configuration in a matter of minutes.

As you probably noticed, we tried multiple times to do exactly as you
suggest.

Obviously my next task is to calibrate the group clapometer :)
I hope that's not a medical term!

You did remind me of the old amateur hours and other shows on radio that
used an applause meter to decide who was the winning contestant.

That might actually be a good idea in this newsgroup :)

That was exactly what I was alluding to :)
