Uninstall Games?

B

Bright Spark

I'm a newbie to Windows 7 (and I miss XP a lot already!!). I want to
get rid of all the games that are pre-installed - can anyone please
point me in the right direction to do this?

Many thanks in advance.

Hit the "Start Orb", in the search box type "Turn Windows Features on or
off". Un-check games and hit [OK]

Thank you, but does that actually uninstall the games or just turn the
feature off? In other words, I want to get rid of them altogether - I
don't want them taking up space on the hard drive.

If you have a look around, I expect the files are still there
on C:, somewhere.

They can be gotten rid of but not with Windows active.
First, remove all references to them in the registry
and reboot.
Then boot using a Linux disk and delete the files from C:\

It will uninstall the game but the source will still be on the local hard
drive for which to reinstall from again.

Maybe you've bought an Acer, and it's "Acer Games" you want to get rid of.
I found that every time I had a look in the folder it had added
something new; and for every access and delete of the icon in Programs
it would just reappear. I ended up with a vast list of things like Death
on The Nile and Farmyard Squibblesquabble.

When the folder grew to a couple of GBs in size I just uninstalled the
thing in the Uninstall Menu; and now it's gone for good.

It also did something nasty with my custom Bejewelled 3; it installed a
crummy little Bejewelled 2 and rendered the 3 icon inoperative.

Unfortunately, that's a bit beyond me - but thanks anyway!

Not an Acer but a Samsung! I found a "program" in the programs
control panel folder called "WildTangent Games" and I think that must
be it, so I'm getting rid of it.

Thanks to all for the assistance.

On my laptop, I have a C:\Program Files (x86)\Acer Games

I determined the path, by looking at the "Acer Games" shortcut on the desktop,
doing properties on it, and verifying the path.

Inside that folder, I can find an "uninstall.exe" file.

I did not find an entry for "Acer Games" in the "Programs and Features"
control panel. There didn't seem to be an install entry for the games,
in that control panel (the Win7 equivalent of Add/Remove Programs).

And that means, if I wanted to remove those games, I'd use the
uninstall.exe and see what happens. Maybe yours doesn't have that,
but you could have a look and see.

Thanks again, Paul. I did go and look around and as I did it seemed
to me that actually the games stuff is not actually set up and
installed but that happens as and if you try to use any of them. So
now I think maybe they're not actually installed and maybe wouldn't be
until I activated them or something. I think I'm going to stop
worrying about it now!!

On to the next thing I find that Microsoft will insist I have to have
even if I don't want it!! LOL!

If you're talking about Wildtangent, that has nothing to do with Microsoft.
Your manufacturer has signed a deal with Wildtangent to install their loader
on your PC.

Thank you for mentioning that. As I read through this thread it became
clear that the OP was (a) not clearly and precisely describing his
problem, and (b) blaming his own ignorance on Microsoft rather than on
his computer's manufacturer and their partner Wildtangent.

I've found Wildtanget installed on most portable computers in the past
couple of years. I get rid of it because the games are all demos that
expire after playing them a few times, and because it constantly phones
home and there seems to be no way of turning that behavior off. I don't
trust it.

Fair enough - then that's something I can't blame Microsoft for! LOL!

Not sure how much clearer I could be than "how do you uninstall games"
- but whatever!))

Poor Microsoft -- didn't deserve my blame this time, you're right!
However hard to know that initially since the Start Menu simply has a
Microsoft Explorer folder that just says "Games" - no mention of any
"WildTangent" until looking in the Programs folders.

Well, "he" thought he was talking about Microsoft games as well.
That's what these forums are for - to help people with information -
that is after, of course, the "regulars" provide a good spanking. Why
on earth would anyone be asking questions in a help forum if they
didn't need help!!
