Two Hours for SP1?

In reality, there are a lot less problems with Windows upgrades than OSX
upgrades. There are a significantly greater number of Windows users than
OSX users, so the problems, while greater in number, are much less
percentagewise.

Wait until Lion comes out. It will break far more than it fixes, and then
there will be a few months of patches issued to fix patches.
Can't say for OSx but in general, for anything, if it ain't broke don't
fix it.
Now if there is some feature you can't live without that is different.

Took me less than 30 minutes. Even that is too long for me. Linux never
takes that long.
Since when did anyone install SP1 on Linux? :)

Funny, I have a 50 megabit cable connection and have had it for a year.
Do you consider that slow?[/QUOTE]

Exceptions do not make the rule!

I usually subscribe to that. But in the case of Windows I think every
upgrade is an improvement in some way.

When I shifted from XP a while ago, it was humming along without a hitch.
After ten years there were bunches of upgrades, "tweaks" and improvements to
be had. In fact some upgrades actually improved it's performance. IMO;
it's still a viable trouble free OS. It was the most stable OS out there
until the advent of 7.

I downloaded the Microsoft ISO image since I have more than one machine
to run it on; so those two hours don't include time I spend downloading
the massive SP.
Two god damn hours to install SP1? Good God, Microsoft is honestly
trying to piss off their customers.

Luckily I'm "genuine."
Did you temporarily disable any antivirus/antimalware software before
attempting to install the SP? This will slow down the install
tremendously.

I'm sure you can point to the exact place that all that bullshit is
documented, complete with %'s and all?

But I am on my HP Touchsmart.

either MS is getting hammered or something is otherwise awry, but the
SP1 has been sitting there saying it is downloading for the last 1/2
hour and nothing is being downloaded.

Oh well, I'll just stop it and try later today. No big deal.

When I installed sp1, the download phase took 23 minutes. The download
size was 61.2 MB. Download speed was 2 to 6 Mbs so the download time
was about 3 minutes. All during the download phase, the disk drive
light was very active. This information was gleened from task
manager, update application, and hardware disk light.

The subsequent install was 12 minutes and the reboot was 10 minutes.
45 minutes in total.

Good things come to those that wait - and I'm waiting. And it's coming
...................... or are you claiming Lion is vaporware?

Not at all, I'm claiming that you can't show the % of problems with OSX
exceeds those of Windows.

Hmmmm...... a flat 17 minutes for me on my XPS.

Mine finally got done after about 1.5 hours. No big deal since I don't
use the machine much. I just told it to get it and went on with my iMac.
You don't need it.
Yeah, I read that after I got it.

One good thing was that for whatever reason, it kick started some
upgrades for other things on the Touchsmart. Well, I guess the reason
was I finally turned the Touchsmart on... :)

If it's a security upgrade, and most are, I agree.

Windows XP actually did improve over time performance wise.
There were some patches along the way that clobbered things but that's
just the way it is with software.
You can't test every single combination of hardware and software.

Vista was not good for digital audio work.
The DPC was too high on many systems.

Windows 7 is rock solid.
I have not had a single issue, which is why I am gun shy about upgrading
:)

In COLA?

The Linux loons "me too" and suck up to posts without reading them so
much, anything is possible!!!!
Hahaha!

I kicked mine off then left to do other things. When I came back about
25 minutes later, the computer was ready to be rebooted. I did that
then went away - when I came back 10 or 15 minutes later it was done.
No problems (or noticeable improvements) since. Everything looks and
behaves the same as before I installed the service pack.
