System cleanup software?

The usual phrasing goes something like "because it fixes a known bug or
adds a feature you actually want". However, how one is supposed to
_know_ that either of those is the case isn't always clear.
Damn you, autocorrect!
(I don't think it would be autocorrect, as beside wasn't misspelt. I
think Ken changed thoughts in midstream, like [then] Mrs. Thatcher.)

What would be a good choice in some cleanup software for my old
computer. It is running Windows 7 SP3 and seems to be in pretty good
working order except that it is very slow. This computer will run very
well for a while then it will stall out and the little donut icon will
spin for a minute or two before the computer comes back alive.

Back again, and I think I found a solution to the above problem. I was
just snooping around and found that the (C:) Properties box showed a
check mark in the box at the bottom: Allow files on this drive to have
contents indexed in addition to file properties.

I removed the check mark from this box and did a re-boot and all seems
to be working well....so far.

Thank you for this. I don't know how or why, but I had the same box
checked although I don't use Windows Indexing. Or to be more
accurate, I _thought_ I didn't use Windows Indexing. :)

IMHO, having file names indexed is helpful, and I do use that in the
Start button's search. But I'm pretty well organized, and I
virtually never need to search files by content. When I do, there's
always GREP.
