I don't think you understand the issue...but thanks for trying!
Oh, I understand the issue very well.
The issue is you are a troll.

When I rt. click 'send to' on a folder I get a desktop option...but no
desktop shortcut option. I have copied the following text file into the
shell: send to folder: Desktop (create shortcut).DeskLink

Still I only get the desktop option

Any Ideas?

Oreally
In the desktop.ini file in the Sendto folder I have the line:
Desktop (create shortcut)[email protected],-21

According to http://www.win7dll.info/sendmail_dll.html, String ID 21 is
"Desktop (create shortcut)".

Just wondered it you have that line. If not it might be worth creating
it in desktop.ini to see if it solves the problem. I doubt it is
relevant but you never know. Maybe Winston can explain what that line
means.

There is a way to eliminate the word shortcut from the default name of a
shortcut.

Thanks for that, Gene.

Gun control is like trying to reduce drunk driving by making it tougher for sober people to own cars.

Tried it...but no luck. Just wondering why (when ctrl shift on a file or
folder) there is a long list of 'send to' items such as 'saved games'
'downloads' 'favorites' etc. but can't reconstruct the default "desktop
create shortcut" even though it is clearly listed as: "Desktop (create
shortcut).DeskLink" in the send to folder.

Maybe Winston knows?

If you've created the item *Desktop (create shortcut)* properly in the correct place shell:sendto for your admin account
userprofile then look at that file's properties.
- unlike the Desktop.ini file (if you can see the ini file you have Explorer configured to show hidden 'protected operating system'
files) the *Desktop (create shortcut)* should not have the 'Hidden' attribute enabled - if it is checked as 'hidden' then uncheck
it and reboot.

That "feature" of windows is not in the same league as hiding file-name
extensions, but it's still pretty annoying.

I don't remember where I got the info to get rid of that - maybe, since
I knew about it from before, I knew to Google for it - and to save my
notes :)

OREALLY sees the file, but he doesn't see the item in the Send to menu.

That was one of the things you could do with the original TweakUI from
Microsoft, so maybe you saw it there.

Actually, I meant knowing that advice on this issue was available online
for later Windowses after TweakUI had gone away.

'Hidden' is not checked!

And also here
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/804-shortcut-extension-remove-restore.html

First appeared (to my recollection) circa 2007 (Vista era) since PowerToys was XP specific. The provider was a company/developer by
the name of 'Frameworkx'
- available from multiple download sources (company/now defunct, Softpedia/it was freeware, etc. and possibly the original source
that everyone later built their how-to articles upon.

I gathered that....and out of any other suggestions.

Fyi...I can delete that file in the Send To folder, remove the line in Desktop.ini, and recreate both without fail per the methods
(all of us suggested or referenced) in this thread.
.....it always appears after a cold boot restart.

Afaik, there is no other correct method to create *it* than previously provided.

How do you recreate the Desktop.ini ?
