Send To Desktop Shortcut Problem

O

OREALLY

When I rt. click 'send to' on a folder I get a desktop option...but no
desktop shortcut option. I have copied the following text file into the
shell: send to folder: Desktop (create shortcut).DeskLink

Still I only get the desktop option

Any Ideas?

Can you copy the shortcut link from the Default User SendTo folder
into your SendTo folder:
C:\Users\Default\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo

I simply choose "create shortcut," which creates the file in the
active directory. Then I drag that file to the desktop. Bingo. I
always then use "properties" to at least eliminate the "-shortcut"
portion of the name, if not rename it completely.

Why MS eliminated the "to desktop" option is a mystery to me.

yes...but it doesn’t show up as an option in the 'send to' context
menu...Have also recreated the "Desktop (create shortcut).DeskLink" in the
default 'send to]' folder....still doesn't show up on rt click / send to!

Sounds like something has happened to the SendTo folder.
Try right-clicking the SendTo folder > Properties > Previous Versions.
See if an earlier version works.

Says I don't have 'permission' to restore an earlier version

It exists here, so I don't think Microsoft eliminated it.

There is a way to eliminate the word shortcut from the default name of a
shortcut.

Thanks...but that's not the issue. The problem is getting the 'send to'
context menu back to the default set-up! No restore points are available.

Well then something is wrong with your account or the SendTo folder's location
or something. Without more details about what you have done and when this
problem started I'm just guessing in the dark.

I've recreated the DESKLINK file as instructed in the user folder. Still it
doesn't show up in the send to menu!

You might find the answer in The Microsoft Community. There is person
with the same problem, and the MVP helped him solve it.

It worked for some people, but not others.

This worked for Vista. If not seen or previously tried....it may work for Win7.

Create a restore point prior to proceeding.

In your first post you said this:

"When I rt. click 'send to' on a folder I get a desktop option...but no

What do you mean by 'desktop option' ?
What does the icon look like ?
I don't get any options that just say 'Desktop'.

O

OREALLY

There should be a desktop (create shortcut) in the menu when you rt click on
a folder and click on 'send to'

No....the DESKLINK file is already there as in the zip. Send to won't see it
for some reason. If you shift/ctrl / send to I get a lot of options...but
still no create shortcut to desktop!
