Printer problem - again

Thanks for this advice. I now remember (and wish I had remembered
earlier) that at one time Windows kept encouraging me to install an
Nvidia driver that was older than the one I had. Eventually I signed
up for Nvidia alerts and ignored anything from Windows.
I installed Realtek audio drivers from MS some time ago; offered as
"optional".
Recently I put a TV as monitor; with good HDMI; but couldn't get any
sound. After some head-scratching I rolled back the drivers on the
Realtek, and bingo!
I then got the latest from R's site. Bingo again!

I will do this but it was clearly not the issue here as I was trying
to print a document that had been created and saved earlier and
printed before. I am struggling with these border positions. Are
they the same as the margins or a different setting?

Do you think Office 2013 (in place of Office 2007) will take care of
this type of issue?
The page you linked earlier has a number of solutions to your page
border problem. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919602

It also says that " page border .... is defined by the printer driver"
So this only confirms that upgrading your Office software will not fix
your page border difficulties.

When I had to make a page with a printable border I just played around
with the properties of a page border and saved that page as a template
for reuse whenever a page border might be required. One of the most
important settings turned out to be to choose 'measure from text' rather
than 'measure from edge' .. This was in Word 2003, but I'm sure you can
find it in 2007

I'd never download hardware drivers from MS; apart from anything else
they're often back level compared with the manufacturer's.

Unless you are using Windows 8
- at this stage quite a few drivers for devices/hardware are made available via Windows 8 as optional updates yet still remain
unavailable on a device manufacturer's site.

Yet, the presence of an update in WU does not indicate it will resolve an existing problem or provide new/additional features. As
in the past the same general rule applies...if it's not broke don't fix it.

Additionally, trying to determine the actual version of a driver offered via WU (before and after installation) can also be a
challenge since the driver offered (even though initially developed by the device manufacturer) may have MSFT properties(provider,
version, digital sig, etc.)

Are you saying that the manufacturer's website (HP in my case) is to
be preferred over handing the task to Windows? Should I refuse
Windows updates (for the printer) and check the HP website for myself?

I'm not the person you're replying to, but the answer to your question
is definitely yes!
