I have no "print screen" key on my Windows7 keyboard? Does anyone know
how I can capture the screen image. Thanks.

You might have to look at the manual that came with your keyboard to
find which key(s) it uses.

Use the Windows Snipping Tool.

However, if you have a netbook (which often comes with Windows 7 Starter)
then you are out of luck as far as the Snipping Tool goes
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/features/snipping-tool.aspx

This freeware program works fine in Win7 Starter. It's not as useful as
PrtScr but it may fulfil some of its functions.

A link would be useful, although I guess I could Google for "This
freeware program" :)

I do have a netbook, so in fact, thanks for the heads up.

You could use this free program called JetScreenshot. It allows you to
capture the whole screen, windows, or any area you specify. The nice
thing is that you can assign the shortcut used to anything that you
want. You can learn more about it and download it here:

Let us know how that goes. ;-)
Oops! I forgot to do it!

My apologies! Thanks for the reminder!

And I truly appreciate the chance to use a lot of exclamation points!

The (over)use of exclamation points makes me giddy. :)

Duh! Sorry Gene, blond moment and I'm a brunette!

MWSnap's biggest drawback is that it runs in Windows while the Print Screen
button (PrtScr) is really useful for catching the sort of error message that
pops up in front of everything else.
This software would be great eg for someone preparing a Powerpoint lecture
about software since you can select a small area of the screen rather than
having to edit your screen print with Irfanview

Check your owner's manual to see what key combination corresponds to
PrintScreen. If there isn't one, I'll bet you can program it with
Autohotkey. (I use Autohotkey a lot, but haven't tried anything with
a PrintScreen key explicitly.)

There are lots of hits when I google for
printscreen autohotkey

Seconded. One of the computers here at my house has Printkey 2000 Free
and it works well.

I also like Printscreen 2000, but it won't address Karen's issue of
not having a PrtScrn key on her keyboard.

Since Win7 is really an upgraded Vista, probably yes.

You have been in the dark fellas. I thought I learned this trick in
kindergarten :)

Hold down the Alt Key and at the same time press the Print Screen key.
The picture is then in memory. Now open your graphics program and just
do a paste.

The OP started this thread with "I have no Print Screen key"... :)

I have my share of blond moments too, and I also was a brunet before I
went grey.

Meanwhile, I discover that my netbook has a PrtScrn button which works.
I haven't checked on the Snipping Tool, since I couldn't remember its
name when I had the netbook on.

I also downloaded and tried jetScreenshot, which adds functionality to
the laptop; it was mentioned by Roy Smith in this thread.

I'll look at MWSnap too.
