I'm aware of that. I should have worded my post a little better than I did.
MS only supports WLM on W-7 so those of us
who don't like WLM have to use MS unsupported software we may not like any
better than WLM.

There is nothing under programs with that name. There is a "Programs and
Features" but WM is not listed there. Are you sure you don't mean
"Programs and Features?"

If not, use
Thunderbird which will work in Windows 7 (that's where you got the
erroneous idea that MS supports Thunderbird) but it's supported by
Mozilla. http://www.mozilla.com/thunderbird
I tried Thunderbird and don't care much for it. I would rather use
WindowsMail.

A MESSAGE 4 MY GOOD FRIEND ALIAS, WINDOWS MAIL FUNCTIONS THAT WAY BY
DESIGN IN WINDOWS 7, USERS ARE SUPPOSED 2 INSTEAD DOWNLOAD WINDOWS LIVE
ESSENTIALS FROM MICROSOFT UPDATE, WHICH INCLUDES BOTH WINDOWS LIVE
MESSENGER, AND WINDOWS LIVE MAIL IN WINDOWS 7 ALIAS! JUST FYI!
I can't help wonder why MS will not allow people not interested in that
overweight bloated WLM package to download the slimmer faster easier to use
WM. It would cost MS nothing to have a good working copy on it's website to
download.

The probable reason for the error, is Windows has updated the .dll

What you can do is go into Program Files and rename the folder 'Windows
Mail' to say 'OLD Windows Mail' and add a new 'Windows Mail' folder
containing the correct version of the .dll
I already tried that. Now WM wont open at all. Also, W-7 doesn't allow the
Admin to change the name of folders under Programs. It's the same idiotic
"permissions" crap we can't get around. There is no geting control of
folders on our own PC with W-7. To be able to get those folders containing
WM out of the way, I had to drag them to the desktop where W-7 will not let
us delete them or rename them. Anyone who thinks this is progress must be
crazy. I have a folder on the W-7 desktop named "Cannot-Delete". I
reinstalled WM and it still wont open.
If you don't have a copy of Windows Mail to place in Program Files, you
can download a copy if you search hard.
I searched hard and there are no copies on the net to download. I had to
get a fresh copy, on a flash drive, from my Vista PC.
Or maybe just download the msoe.dll and
What version of the dll is needed? Does it matter?
copy the other files from the 'OLD Windows Mail' folder or find a friend
that has a Vista disk and copy it from there as I did.
I copied it from my Vista PC. :) It worked fine at first, then links
became unclickable in email. Then we did the system-recovery and it wont
open at all now. Reinstalling it fresh from Vista didn't work. Notice how
silent the MS-heads are on this NG about helping people who are unhappy with
WLM?

WINDOWS MAIL IS DESIGNED THAT WAY ON PURPOSE IN WINDOWS 7, YOU ARE
SUPPOSED 2 DOWNLOAD WINDOWS LIVE ESSENTIALS INSTEAD, WHICH COMES WITH BOTH
WINDOWS LIVE MESSENGER AND WINDOWS LIVE MAIL, VALERIE! WINDOWS LIVE MAIL
TAKES THE PLACE OF WINDOWS MAIL IN WINDOWS 7, VALERIE!

I know this but I don't want that overfed bloated email software. I want to
continue to use WindowsMail. I don't need or want all those useless
features added to WLM.

That's my point. MS only supports WLM . If someone doesn't like WLM they
have to use an unsupported mail/news reader be it MS Outlook Express on
an old PC or Thunderbird or WindowsMail on Vista.
Are you really this dense?
Microsoft doesn't support any program it doesn't develop. Additionally
MS doesn't support a lot of older programs. Try calling them and getting
help with Windows 98.

MS doesn't support Adobe Photoshop, or Adobe Acrobat, or ACDSee, or
Acornis Backup Software, or Malwarebytes, or AVG, or Qimage, or Garmin
Mapsource Programs, or Adobe Dreamweaver, or Pinnacle Studio, or
thousands of other software programs. Why would you think they would
support email programs they don't write or offer?

Where did you get the idea that Mozilla doesn't support their software?
I don't use WLM, for mail or newsgroups and I get

So you got Outlook Express to work on W-7, or you have an old XP PC?
OE will work fine if you have Windows 7 Pro. Install the Windows Virtual
Machine, then install XP Mode and OE is there as part of the XP install.
On second thought, I don't think you should try this.

We tried a few over the years and never found one we liked better than
OE or WM. Now why doesn't MS support WM on W-7? Why is it set up that
WM will not work on W-7?
Because Microsoft has moved on.
If you want to use OE then you need Windows7 Proffesional (The dearest
version( that will let you install OE ubder "WinXP Mode"

I use WLM on two laptops and it works OK for me (Mail and Newsgroups)
Download the Microsoft Window Live Essentials to get WLM working, then go
to "add remove" and get rid of the "Messenger" component.
So as a MS-Head, to you, anyone not happy with a MS product is a
whiner........ I get it now. We're all supposed to shut up and worship
at the feet MS no matter how unsuitable the MS software may be.
IMHO you would be better served to ;
a. Put up with it. or
b. Learn to use an alternate OS and software, that suits your style and
ability

There you should find Windows Live Essentials.
Click on it and select uninstall.
You willthen be offered
Repair
Select components to uninstall
Make a chioice, if no good uninstall the lot, re-download Winows Live
Essentilal and start again
If not, use

I tried Thunderbird and don't care much for it. I would rather use

Aint going to happen unless you buy the most expensive Win7, or go to EBay
and buy a WindowsXP CD.

You have been given a LOT of alternatives. Your position is, evidently,
that people help you install an unsupported program under windows 7 that
Microsoft has decided, for whatever reason, should not be used under
Windows 7. Despite being told that this is not going to work properly
over and over, you continue to harp on the fact that you WANT it to
work, therefore it must be made to work.

If you are that attached to the previous software, then buy Vista and run
it.
No, I notice just the opposite.

Microsoft does not care that you want to run Windows Mail. If you want
supported software, you can run WLM, or you can run any of the dozens of
third party programs that exist.

I know this but I don't want that overfed bloated email software. I want
to continue to use WindowsMail. I don't need or want all those useless

Look, if Windows Mail was INTENDED to work with Win7 it would have been
INCLUDED with Win7. So as it WASN'T included with Win7, isn't supported
in that OS, it "ain't" gonna work very well or at all in Win7. How is it
so hard for you to figure that out? Give it up and just either
suck-it-up and install WLM OR a third party SUPERIOR email client, such
as THUNDERBIRD, and get over it. What the hell is the big deal with
Windows Mail that was ONLY designed for Vista and inferior to boot? It's
JUST EMAIL, MOVE ON! ..Do something different! But quit bitching about
getting Windows Mail that was designed for Vista ONLY, working
reliability in Win7! (Without tweeks and constant tinkering!) Adapt for
Christ's sakes and install a superior 3rd party email client.
Good-God-A-Mighty! Sheesh! You bitch, whine, and complain about an email
client that was NEVER intended for Win7, so should not be expected to
work with it reliably, which obviously it doesn't. G-I-V-E, I-T, U-P!
You want support from not only HP but MS, for a product that was ONLY
intended for Vista, but now forced by you into Win7. Ya ain't gonna get
it, cuz it was NEVER intended for Win7. Get it? Get it? Get it? If not,
please package your computer up in the original packaging, and send it
back from where you got it, as you have NO business owning one at this
point anyway. I know people I have felt were six times as ignorant as
yourself, yet they could still grasp the simple concept that if the
software wasn't designed for the OS they were running, chances are, it
will never work reliably or at all! So what's your excuse?

WLM bloated compared to Windows Mail, Outlook?? Really? How so? I use
WLM on 6 machines including in a virtual machine within Linux, and
hardly find it "bloated." Please explain further how it is so bloated,
and how it just doesn't work.(?) I haven't bothered with Live
Essentials, and if I did, then I could see bloat perhaps, but not with
WLM stand-alone. Nope, you're barking up the wrong tree there.

G'day

Several have wondered if there is anyway to use OE (or WinMail in Vista) in Windows
7.

This page addresses some of the potential means to do so:

Keep up sport, she doesn't like nor want WLM. But instead of opting to
