I don't think I am going to be enjoying anything for the next several
days as I study and pass the certification test to get a contract.

Ouch! May you do well and it be worth it.
Sincerely,
Gene Wirchenko
I am going to tell you right now. I am doing this in the hopes of
getting a contract, which is contingent upon me getting this
certification. I am a MS .NET programmer, but I need this certification
to get on the Wright Patterson Air Force Base. I can't get on the base
and program and maintain security in Internet, Intranet, Ethernet etc,
ect without the certification. It's also covering different O/S(s) and
hardening to prevent DoS, protocol attacks, DNS on the network blah blah
blah and at the machine level. I still have a long way to go.
Anyway, Win 7 has a Web server, services and other such things that need
to be harden particularly when such machines are being exposed on the
Internet. Or the machines are being used on a work or home network.
It's opening my eyes on how to secure machines, networks and
applications running on machines. I knew something about some of this,
but not to the detail that is being shown to me.
For a home user with a network or not, the book on this and the lessons
are worth spending $50 on the book some information they will never use
at home, but a lot of information can be applied to home usage . So they
don't need to get the certification, just the knowledge alone is worth
the $50.
