One of the mods or admins will have to check into the solved issue for you....but you could check from your end, up in the right corner in thread tools, see if anything is there for you to mark or uncheck the solved.

Kernel-Power id 41
I am re-posting because somehow it ended up showing solved and it is not solved. My dell laptop running Windows 7 is powering itself down on a regular basis. In my event viewer Kernel-Power id 41 is showing up as critical. Can someone advise me as to what the issue may be. I am thinking it is a software issue and not a hardware issue but I really don't know.

I would check your control panel > power options and maybe try one for higher performance.
You could also check device manager for devices with power management tabs and set important ones, like your network interface controller to never sleep.
Also make sure you are up-to-date on windows updates, running SP1, etc.
And in safe mode (without networking) it's a good idea to run a complete virus scan.

The message says it is being limited by firmware. By any chance have you done a BIOS update?
I know from experience that the Phenom II:X4 had an issue that would rarely happen but to solve it they throttled the whole processor down and so for a very rare error you were better off NOT getting the BIOS update for that CPU. I'm thinking this may be a similar situation.
It could also be normal, EIST may be enabled in your BIOS settings. See J W Stuart's answer HERE.

To access safe made, reboot your computer. When you see "starting windows" press F8. Choose safe mode (without networking support). Once in there say no to system restore if it offers ... you want to continue with safe mode. Then find and run Norton from your start menu items.
If you want to perform an even better malware scan, before you reboot, download TDSSKiller and RKill and then, run both of those once in safe mode, in that order, and then run your Norton (links to TDSSKiller and RKill can be found in our Freeware DB at the bottom under virus removal).

According to the Dell site your computer shipped with Vista and they list no support for W7 which I find odd (normally at least one extra OS version is supported) ... although most everything from Vista is W7 compatible so that isn't necessarily an issue, I just find it odd.
How long ago did you upgrade to W7? Have you had the problems ever since?
It also says there is a BIOS update from Dec 2008 which you should probably download and run. 1735_A05.EXE.
