Is there any way to use Outlook Express with WIN7?

Is there any way to use Outlook Express with Windows 7? I bought Outlook
2007 to try it but I can't see anyway to write a rule that routes email from
a specific account to a particular folder.

I had Outlook Express set up perfectly on my old XP machine but now I've got
to start over.

And, of course, Windows Live Mail doesn't communicate with my Blackberry.

Thanks,

Rick Morrison

I have many rules set up in Outlook 2007 to route my mail from the 7 email
accounts it checks. In the Mail Section of Outlook click on Tools, then
Rules and Alerts. The process is very similar (though not the same) as in
OE.

You didn't look very hard. Of COURSE Outlook 2007 can do that.
Tools-Rules and Alerts-New Rule-Start from a blank rule.

Thanks, I got it working fine.

Outlook 2007

Tools>Rules and Alerts Select New Rule > Start from a blank rule, select
Check messages when they arrive. Step 2, the box says Apply this rule
after the message arrives, click next. Click the box by through the
specified account, then on the Step 2 box, click on specified, and
select the account, click next, then check the box next to "move to the
specified folder".

Continue with the process until the rule is finished.

Apparently, Blackberry software is hard coded for Outlook, only, so
you're pretty much limited.

Although, this sounds worth investigating.

What if I have a BlackBerry device?

Win Live Mail is almost the same as Outlook Express and you can read
newsgroups in it like Outlook Express.

Just Google something like "how to run Outlook express on windows 7" - it
will give the results.

I have to warn you though. I did this with Win Mail and it works just fine
but..... if you want to import messages from your XP/Vista installation it
may not work. I found when I tried to import messages they were empty
folders or some empty some partially complete. It seemed to importat my
address book OK which was good.

Two questions:

Which version of Windows 7 do you have? If you have Professional or
Ultimate, You can Install the XP VM.

How much trouble are you willing to go to? If it's worth it to you,
Install the XP VM, and then when you want to use Outlook Express Open
the XPMODE window.

I've got 5 rules that move msgs to the correct folder in OL 2007.

If you haven't already , create the folders

Go to TOOLS > RULES AND ALERTS> NEW RULE

Ignore the suggested templates and go to the bottom and start from a blank
rule > Check msgs when they arrive.

Select " Through the specified account'.

It will appear at the bottom. Click SPECIFIED and select your target account
from the drop down list. Next .

Select move it to the specified folder ( click the folder at the bottom ,
select it ) NEXT..do not apply any exceptions..

Off you go !

No. OE is history.
You've gotta be kidding me. One of the most prominent software
producers in the world, and they couldn't make OE available for
download? Or, alternately, releasing an OE 7?

I've been really tolerant of MS up to this point, but now they're
really starting to get to me.

Yet another reason to stay with XP for now.

Regards.

I believe that you can run it in a virtual XP setup in Win7.

It may not seem like it right now, but Microsoft is doing you a favor
by taking OE off the table. It really wasn't very good at what it
does. Move on and make OE a distant memory.

I won't argue with that, but the didn't do anyone any favors with
Wal-Mail. (Windows Live Mail). What a piece of crap that is. I tried it
for about three hours and tossed it.

"This point" was 3 or 4 years ago when OE was discontinued. And you're
just now complaining about it? I guess I shouldn't be surprised, since
you're replying to a two-year-old post.

Three hours? You have much more patience than I do.

I've never attempted to use it as a newsreader, but I've been
using it for several years as an e-mail client only (since I dropped
Eudora), and I've really never had a single problem with it. What
aspect of it disappointed you?

Enjoy the day.
