? for T-Bird users.

Is there a way to change the font size in T-Bird? For both reading and
writing messages for Usenet. I can't seem to find one and with my aging
eyes I would love to be able to make it larger.
I tried searching for it and all I could seem to find is others
asking the same question.

Tools - Options - Display - Fonts and encoding - Fonts.

In 2.0.24, anyway.

I suspect TB9 is the same, but I re-installed 2.0.24 very quickly due to
its 'orribleness.

You mean Tools | Options | Display | Formatting | Fonts (and | Advanced
if necessary) doesn't get you to where you want to be?

If not, try reposting in mozilla.support.thunderbird on the
news.mozilla.org server. Font size is often a subject which appears.

In 9, it's Tools/Options/Display/Advanced button to the right of Fonts.
OK, That one finally did it. Under advanced there are 3 places to change
it. Tried them all till I found the right one. The last one is minimum
size. When I change it all changes where I can see what the hell I am doing.
Thanks, I had tried a couple of Usenet groups for T-bird. They seem to
have no activity and I got no response. If anyone else is having the
same problem I am not sure what version this is. I let them update it
whenever they pop up with an update. I think it shows in the headers
somewhere?

I finally found it thanks to Alias. It was in the Advanced but there was
3 places to change it. I had tried it but never tried all of them. It's
the last one that finally works, at least in this version. I have no
idea which one this is, I let Mozilla update it whenever it wants too. I
had done a lot of searching and I was finding a lot of people asking the
same question. All the answers were around changing the font colors and
type but nothing to just make it bigger. I had even resorted to using
the magnifier in W-7. It was a PITA though. Now I can see the letters!!!

Help - About Thunderbird might help you.

Help - About Thunderbird might help you.
I clicked on it just now. I could not find any help in there anywhere.
It did say I am up to date and have version 9.0.1. What that is supposed
to me to me I have no idea. I guess if I get stuck on something again it
may help to at least be able to tell someone which version I am using. I
only use this for Usenet so I may miss some of the changes they have
made. I have lost track of how many times it told me there was some
update so I told it to take it. I have never noticed anything changing
in how it works. I guessed it had more to do with using this as an
e-mail program? My ISP offers up to 5, IIRC, mail boxes but I have never
used it.
The only thing I have been "wishing for" was a way to make the font
larger. Had I known how easy it was to get an answer here I would have
asked a long time ago. :)

It tells you which version of Thunderbird you have installed, and if you
quote this when asking questions, then people can give you information
more relevant to your problem, as solutions often change between
versions. Almost all programs will give this information if you open
Help - About box.

Unfortunately, if you open the Help in Thunderbird, it goes online and
opens the general Mozilla help page, and you need to navigate from
there, which can be a right PITA.

Tools > Options > Display > Fonts > Advanced.

Select the fonts you want and their sizes. Set the minimum size to the
smallest font size you've selected. Serif fonts are easier to read, so I
specified serif fonts in every box, even the sans-serif ones.

Experiment with the effect of unchecking "Allow messages to use other
fonts". Allowing message-side font selection may result in a font too
small for your liking, especially in HTML messages. However, HTML may
override your font settings anyhow.

Readability of the display also depends on your monitor. On this
1920x1080 monitor I've set all TBird display fonts to 20 points. If your
monitor is higher rez, select a larger font size; if it's lower, select
a smaller one.

My feed does not seem to offer that one. Just put it into the search and
nothing shows. It did show a a few groups. I tried 2 of them but both
show no activity for a while.
What the hell all I had to do was ask here and I got the right answer in
no time. It works great now.
If I run into another problem I will start here first before I even
waste time anywhere else.

Thanks but I found it as soon as I read Alias's response.
In this version it is under Advanced. I had stumbled onto that once
before but there are 3 choices. I had tried the first couple and nothing
changes. It's the last one that does it. At least for what I want, just
the reading and writing for Usenet. What the other 2 do I have no clue.

20? Damn your eyes are bad. Mine ain't the greatest either and I can read
just fine at 10 or 12 points.

news.mozilla.org is a news server. Just set up a news account. In Tbird
that's done via Account Settings > Account Actions > Add Account.

I am sure there is more to this but on my machine there is a huge
difference in something like a Word Doc,and what I see here. If I open a
Word doc 14 is fine. If I set this to 14, which is what it was, the damn
font was so small I could barley read it. Before I got a strait answer I
was often typing into a Word Doc. to past here. That made it so I could
read what I was writing but still had me staining to see what others
wrote when using my laptop. It has a 17" screen.
Like so many things with a PC there is probably some other way to do
this but I could not find one that worked.

It's a news server, not a news group. If you searched for a group, you
wouldn't have found it.

Someone else just pointed that out. If I run into another problem I will
try it. This one was solved by just asking here after I wasted a lot of
time looking all over the place. :)
