Mate,

Please reset driver verifier and reboot to your desktop.

Then from a command prompt with administrator privileges type in the following:

verifier /volatile /flags 0xdd9

Please give that a go. You won't need to reboot.

Then please do what ever it is that makes the computer crash. Hopefully it will provide more information about who is crashing the computer.

Let us know how you get on.

HI

Please take note. The computer does not crash, nor do I get a BSOD. It just freezes. Then I have to reboot.

I ran that thing at the command prompt. It says
I/o verification enabled
Deadlock detection disabled
DMA checking enabled
IRP logging enabled
force IRQL checking disabled

Hope that is what you wanted. When my pc freezes, where will I find the logs you are looking for.

Yep, hopefully it will catch the program doing the wrong thing.

Should be in one of the following directories:
c:\Windows
c:\Windows\Minidump
c:\Windows\Live KernelReports\WATCHDOG

Just so you know, if you reboot your machine for any other reason than if it crashes, you will need to run that command again.

That command is only active until the machine reboots. Once it reboots the command is gone.

Yes, I know that your computer freezes. Hopefully it will catch the problem.

ok understood. I kinda read that a reboot would cause me to redo it all. What would be the name of the file I have to look for?

The file will end with .dmp.
An example 052214-33321-01.dmp

Remember to put them in a zip file and upload them to the forum if you find them.

Open a command prompt as Administrator. If you don't know how to do that please ask.

Then type in the following:
cd c:\windows
dir *.dmp /s /p

Can you even see the \Windows\Minidump folder ? If not then you may need to change File & Folder View settings to see either "hidden files and folders" or "protected OS files".

Please set the crash dump back to kernel by doing the following:

  1. Click the Start Button.
  2. Type in cmd
  3. You should see cmd.exe in the list.
  4. Right click on cmd.exe and select "Run as Administrator"
  5. In the command prompt window type in:

wmic recoveros set DebugInfoType = 2
It should say that the command was successful.

Have done all that you said , will have to wait for system to freeze again. I ran that stuff like you said, however the files that were found were the same ones I found. They were from some time ago. nothing from yesterday.

HI
In the registry , what are the value for CRASH DUMP enabled. I have read that it should be 3, mine is set for 2. Not sure if that matters

Nope, it should be 2.
3 is for a small memory dump, basically not information in the crash dump file.

Has it frozen again?

Ok, this thread needs more information.

Please do the following:
Download hwInfo and run it.
  • Click on "Save Report"
  • Make sure the Export Format is HTML
  • Click "Browse" and select your "Desktop"
  • Give the file a name like MyComputer or your Forum username.
  • Click on Save
  • Click on "Next".
  • Click on "Finish"
  • Put the newly created MyComputer.html (Or what ever you decided to call it) in to a zip file and upload it to the forum.
  1. Have you been able to identify any sequence that seems to happen prior to the freezing?
  2. What USB devices do you have plugged in?
  3. Do you have any power conditioning hardware? For example a UPS (Uninteruptable power Supply)
