To be honest, I'm not sure what to tell you. I'm not 100% convinced you have a virus but I'm not sure. I'm thinking locked files could also be your hard drive going bad or permissions problems.
Me personally, I would probably back up all the settings and data to an external hard drive using the built-in utility Windows Easy Transfer. Then format the hard drive, reinstall W7 and run all Windows Updates, restore the settings/data, reinstall your anti-virus and run a complete scan on all your restored data, and finally reinstall all your programs. Unfortunately it's a lot of work but I would feel more comfortable afterwards that it is not a virus and that you have a nice clean fresh system registry.
