I removed Peerblock this morning. I did some trolling on their google code page and it seems like the software tends to cause crashes with verifier.

After the removal, i did a restart, but the restart became a crash. it was weird, i got 2 dump files form that, attached. but since then it has changed a bit.

As for crashing, it is now not restarting after the BSoD, just dropping video and keyboard leds. tower stays on. I have been agitating to this crash via norton full system scans. It will do the thing where applications will freeze once their window is clicked in (not always, just once the crashing starts) and then explorer/startbar crashes, piece by piece. It is quite weird. is there a report from the event viewer that could help look at these?

I have moved the gdrv.sys to a folder on the desktop. Should I just delete it? I cannot find the AppleCharger.sys file via search. my system does not seem to have the gigabye on/off charger software 'installed' by name atleast... that is the gdrv.sys file right? eslite.exe?

If Shintaro said it was causing BSODs on my machine I would definitely try uninstalling it but I can tell you from personal experience on my machine Peerblock has run nearly nonstop since I upgraded to W7 and I don't believe it has ever caused me to lock up. If you do reinstall it, make sure you have ver1.1; it's a gold cube not the blue cube.

Just FYI keygen's are not usually Trojans/viruses. Norton lies about it, as do many A/Vs because they are an almost sure sign of warez pirated software and companies pay them to spread these falsehoods. They were likely included in the zips files of some questionable software you downloaded and Norton extracted and quarantined it.

ALright so i found the gigabyte utilities that did not have uninstall files in the start menu folders, in the add/remove feature. i am removing them 1 by 1 now. as a side note, i was trolling and found this thread on toms. do you think the issue could be similar? my Crucial M4 SSD firmware is version 00002. crucial would certainly tell me to do it, but i know trolling like this is often unrelated, even when it seems the same. i will have all giabyte utilities removed in a few minutes, and then will attempt to agitate to crash again for minidump.

alright so as i was uninstalling the on_off charge utility it crashed the way it used to - going bsod>blank>restart. got a minidump. going to finish the rest of the utilities, restart, and try that one again.

The on_off charge utility uninstall again caused a crash with restart. i have now booted into safe mode and uninstalled here. went super fast and asked for restart at end, done. now starting windows normally, to try and agitate a crash. did not get a minidump from failed uninstall crash.

I ran another norton scan today while out, it caused the same crash again, but no minidump. WHen i got home i had to hold power button per usual, then boot up. again, no minidump. I uninstalled norton, and ran some online free scans. i am fairly confindent at this point there is no virus, trojan or worm. I began running a windows defender scan, and some other software to agitate. i got up to eat with my friend. a few minutes i came back and black screen stuck. what? no minidump. this seems to be happening a lot when im away from it - then i thought. could this have to do with the systems power savings settings for monitors/sleep? so i have gone in and turned both of the settings to never. i am going to install norton again now. then restart, run scan, and hoping to see how this could effect the crashes. any thoughts or suggestions? any way to try and get logs for you to look at?

alright so i got a picture of part of it! running a norton full scan, and decided to really agitate it and get all 6 cores up to 100 percent by having handbrake convert a video to mkv. in doing so, explorer was the first to crash, then handbrake shortly after. my gadget froze once moused over, and then the 2 i didnt crashed after. Ironically, the norton software, running the full scan, and its 2 other windows did not crash. they stayed fine until finally everything but the background disappeared. attached is the error message i got when this happened. i waited a while, then clicked ok. after that it sat for about 3 seconds, then bsod > no video. had to power off by hold power button. boot back up, no minidump, as expected after reading error. this time i am only going to run handbrake to see how it does, it tends to take advantage of resources very well to agitate

similar? : http://forum.notebookreview.com/sol...5667-crucial-128gb-m4-bluescreen-death-3.html

im debating updating firmware. i will have to take ssd out of case and mount on the usb plugin it came with, and do from my roommates computer, to ensure that it doesn't crash during and render useless.

i am now running a windows memory diagnostic - extended, default cache, 2 pass. will be interested to see if it makes it through both passes, and if it finds anything. at this point i would be ecstatic to hear one of my dimms needs to be replaced.

Why are you running Nortons if you know it crashes the computer?

I would suggest that you uninstall it and see how things go. And use Microsofts Security Essentials.

Leave updating the firmware as a last resort.

i guess because i dont believe norton is the cause for the crash, just another agitator. but yes i can do that. running the windows memory checker still caused crash. running 4 passes of memtext86+ found no errors and did not cause a crash for over 12 hours, which was running off bootable cd. windows 7 dvd repair did nothing, but did end with the following error.
