I can't defend Microsoft on this one. They have pushed the Bing toolbar via Windows Update and I personally think that is wrong. Especially if users did not have the toolbar in the first place, how can it be an "update"?
I also note I have marked that update to be hidden on more than one occasion and somehow, it has mysteriously reappeared as a recommended update again.
Very irritating! So I ALWAYS double check to ensure it is not "un-hidden".
That said, there are many things outside Microsoft's control that could cause the Windows Update program to fail, or an update to be corrupt necessitating the user to repair Windows Update - which "resets" WU, and potentially unhiding previously hidden updates. Just another reason to not be "click happy" and verify what's happening before pressing on.
