this isn't my computer, but the problem puzzles me:

hp pavilion m8226x
2 gb ram
windows 7 64-bit operating system
processor cores: 2

NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM)

network adapter: NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller
network adapter: USB Wireless 802.11 b/g Adaptor

I provided two mini dumps, but have no clue what I'm looking at when i open them with the Windbg w/e program. This computer is really foreign to me but I'd like to get it up and running for my cousins. thanks a bunch if you can help!

==edit==

Is there a tutorial for reading the mini dumps? i'd like to learn.
Also, I ran memtest on this already, the memory is good, 8 passes. no errors.

I'm going to throw my hands up straight away and admit that I think this one may be beyond my limited BSOD knowledge.

STOP 0x00000019: BAD_POOL_HEADER
Usual causes:
Device driver :D

STOP 0x00000024: NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM
Usual causes:
Disk corruption, insufficient physical memory, Device driver, Indexing, Resident antivirus, backup, defrag programs, Disk/Drive failing/failure :eek:

There's a couple of drivers that need updating.

Download and install CPU-Z. The experts will want you to take screenshots/snips of the Memory and SPD tabs.
Go to Post Reply, click on Go Advanced button and attach the screenshots to your post by using the paper clip you will find on the top toolbar.

    If you see NtfsExceptionFilter on the stack then the 2nd and 3rd
    parameters are the exception record and context record. Do a .cxr
    on the 3rd parameter and then kb to obtain a more informative stack
    trace.

I downloaded that program, but when i run it, I get the error message. I printscreened and uploaded it as an attachment. When i clicked yes/no and go to the requested tabs nothing is filled out.

==edit==

also, ignore the computer specs i describe in my profile, this computer is completely different

As I'm just starting out with analysing BSOD's, instead of giving misinformation, I'd rather give none.

As I say, you're STOP 0x00000024: NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM minidump is beyond my currently limited knowledge and it would be far better if you waited for the resident expert cybercore to come along. Sorry I can't be of assistance. Though strange about the CPU-Z not running!

Okay, im doing it now. thanks i'll update when its done.

==edit==

i tried to check disk but it told me to "invoke this utility in elevated mode"

I updated those drivers. Seems to be running better, but can't be too sure. I also found out from relatives that this computer came with 3 GB of ram but i checked and it only has 2. The last person that opened this up was some random person they hired to fix the hard drive, i figured he must of took it. back on topic though..

and i've yet to do the memtest for 10 passes. Although i don't think its the memory b/c i've done the test for 7 or 8 passes already. I'll give it a shot anyway.

Yea, your RAM being set wrong in the bios is the causer of your crashes. Enter bios setup to set all dram options "AUTO", or load setup defaults or whatever option to that effect is in your bios.

~~~~~~~
The settings for your RAM should be as follows:
Frequency: 800 Mhz
Timings: 6-6-6-18
Votage
: 1.8v
Well I went to the bios and reset to default in general. There was nothing that let me change settings for the ram. I went back to CPUZ and everything is the same. Is medium to change the ram settings?
Setup defaults set all RAM and other hardware options to automatic, and this almost always works.
I am reading in these threads on the BSOD about crash dumps in C:\Windows\Minidump, but I don't have such a folder. Any suggestions please?
sorry for the late reply, Elmer and Cyber. I read what you said, and did it as you told but the computer still bluescreens. Are there any other possibilities?
All right I will when i get access to the computer again. They've taken it away. Hopefully this thread doesn't get closed. Thanks very much!
