I still have the com port loop back plugs from Norton utilities. Probably
useless now.

KenW
Some of the BIOS versions and other diagnostic utilities can make use of
them (if you have serial ports) and more or less equivalent USB loops.

Unfortunately, other security programs normally get better reviews. The
better the review, the more the program publishers are willing to pay
for the advert.
I have seen Norton win, place, or show several times in recent years in
PC World (this is a magazine in the USA).

Or if you prefer this formulation:
I have seen Norton get gold, silver, or bronze several times in recent
years in PC World (this is a magazine in the USA).

Since I don't read many other such articles (e.g., other magazines), my
sampling isn't great, so I really can't contest your remark :)

You spelled "worst" incorrectly.
wurst?

I started to compose this reply intending pure whimsy, but the more I
think about it, the more I like the comparison between NIS and sausage.

No comparison, sausage does it's job, doesn't fill your PC with bloat
nor does it advertise it can do something it doesn't, NIS on the other
hand.... <G>

You got a hearty laugh from two people (I showed it to the person at the
next computer - she agrees too).

You are a brat.

From my sig collection:

"Mark Twain famously noted that those who are interested in the law or
sausage should never watch either made. In the years since he made
the remark, there has been considerable reform in sausage making." --
Dennis E. Powell

A computer program could be considered to be a law of sorts.

The above notwithstanding, this Saturday, as usual, I shall go to
the local farmer's market mainly to get a bratwurst hotdog with the
vendor's special mustard and a bit of sauerkraut. Mmm!

Sincerely,

Gene Wirchenko

Looking better....
I was unable to influence the problem with the Hosts file
I dropped back to an 08/02/2012 restore point and the Internet options
are not corrupted by the Czech intruder.

Windows & Norton Updates in process.
Just a heads up.
I am currently involved trying to remove this from my Win 7 machine.
It plants itself in the Internet options to replace your home page
with apype.com. IE9 kills it with a DEP check fortunately.

I have Norton Internet Security 2012 but so far they just want me to
pay them money to fix what got by their software.

There are fixes on the net involving registry editing that I would
prefer to not trust. However, A recommendation from this group might
change my mind!

Sir, you have gourmet tastes!

I wish I could join you.
One of the few things I miss not living in Columbus Ohio is its German
Village. Since I grew up there I thought that was the norm.

With my current stomach problems I am a little afraid to try sausage
just yet, but perhaps kraut & pork with a cold beer would help
stabilize my stomach.

BTW, the hang up on the PROBLEM is getting Norton Internet Security
healthy. Doing a download install at this time.

Get two, please?

Get two, please?
What I have been doing is walking down and back -- it is about a
hour with a nice hill (good exercise) -- and rewarding myself with the
hot dog after I got home. Of course, it is somewhat cool then -- not
ideal -- and I was thinking this weekend of getting two, eating one
right away and the other as usual.

Now, I will "have" to.

Sincerely,

Gene Wirchenko

The problem came to me by way of downloading and installing
Freeyoutubevideodownloader which is hosted by
starwebsearch.com at IP address 76.76.107.26, near Montreal
Quebec. There are 26 other IP,s at this address.
For future reference, there's a killer, free, add-on for that, for FireFox, called
VideoDownloadHelper.

All is well...
A restore to a time well before the Highjack solved the problem. This
is not the first time a restore saved me!

I have been thinking about giving FireFox a try. I really like
ThunderBird.
