I use Win 7 Home Premium SP1 64 bit. I have had a basic address book program

sites that offered free address book programs but they downloaded and
installed (without my specific approval) several other programs I don't want.
I went into Control Panel and deleted each piece of crap installed on that
day. Does anyone here know of a decent address book software program I can
install on my computer? Thanks!

Have you got Microsoft Word, or any word-processing program? That's
what I use. I took a few minutes to define about four styles. I
print it every so often, using the "bookley" mode of my printer.

Hmm. I tried MS Word's address book and it's nice but not what I was
looking for. My snail mail addresses previously fit on one double sided
page. Very handy. Since my previous file disappeared I find it is easier
to just use Word with a 3-column display and enter the information that way.
Thanks to everyone for all the ideas.

Why cant you re-install the program that 'disappeared' ?

It's no longer on my computer and it being 10+ years old I don't recall
the name of the program. Snail mail address book.
Are you sure it is not just the icon for launching the program that has
disappeared. Seems odd that the program has deleted itself.

I agree that it is strange. I think my previous Address Book was an add-on
utility of my Quicken 2011 program. I was having big problems with online
updating Quicken and went to their Help online link. They advised me I
should upgrade to Quicken 2013 which would include them taking control of my
computer, deleting Quicken 2011 and installing Quicken 2013. I suspect
their deletion of Quicken 2011 must have also removed that Quicken Address
Book and the address file as well. Luckily I still have the printed copy to
re-enter my address stuff. The only good news is that now my Quicken online
updates work fine.

Have a look in C:\Program Files for the Quicken folder(s) and see if
there is a file called addressbook.exe or contacts.exe or something
similar and open it.

But you didn't write that, did you?

It's a sin to tell a lie. Please fix your quoting style.

You might be interested in a problem I've noticed with your newsreader.
It seems to chop off the persons name to whom you are replying.
You are replying to Panic yet my name is at the top as though you are
replying to me.
I've noticed this odd behaviour on several of your posts in the past.
Thanks for pointing that out Dave.

A quick look infers it is a problem when replying to people using
windows live mail as live mail does not quote properly, it is really
meant for email and not newsgroups.

I've heard no bad reports of Windows Live Mail QuoteFix, from
http://www.dusko-lolic.from.hr/wlmquote/, which used to be mentioned a
lot when this subject came up in the early days of this newsgroup. I
understand it helps WLM (in which the quoting style was broken in
versions 15 onwards), in a way not dissimilar to how OE-Quotefix (and
Outlook-Quotefix) by Dominic Jain helped OE (and Outlook).

No Mick, it's not there. Thanks for the effort! I am now building a new
address book just using Word with 3 columns. That produces a listing almost
identical to the one I had before. I can double side print it and get the
whole list on one sheet of paper.

Go to Start, and type Contact in the search box.
