Yes, I've heard lots of stories about sujuk makers going to the
livestock markets and returning with one cow and two donkeys. But I
guess horses will do as well.
Probably the best sujuk is the D-shaped ones, which starts off as two
rather long tubular sausages tied every 8 cm or so with a strong skin
and then pressed to get the double D shape -- one being a mirror image
of the other. Sort of back to back post coital position.
Sujuk is any tubular sausage really. These pressed one have a special
name -- basturma. Meaning...? Yes, you've guessed it: It means Pressed.
Not all Basturma's are of this type or shaped like this. There are other
varieties of Basturma, like for example the Kayseri Basturma which is a
real if rather expensive treat. My mouth has started watering already!

PS. Careful though, sujuk can also mean a part of the male anatomy in
Turkish slang! I'll leave YOU to guess which part!
