I bought a Dell Inspiron N4010 with Windows 7. The sound was initially working but then stopped working and the error is "No audio output device is installed". When I go to the sounds section in Device Manager, I do not see the Realtek device which is supposed to be installed. Any suggestions on how to restore my sound back?

Check in the bios that the onboard audio is enabled.

If not, set it so and save.

(The cmos battery could be failing on you.)

Go to Control Panel, then Sounds, right-click in the window of the Playback tab and choose "View disabled devices" and see if it shows up there. If it shows up, then click to enable it and see if that fixes your problem.

Also, Realtek HD Audio Manager should have its own location in the Control Panel's main window.
