Often the copy & paste will not work for the text in error messages.
Is there a way to avoid typing them out? Peter

I do have the Windows "Snipping tool" so I'll use that.Printscreen and a photo app that accepts printscreen output?
(Usually paste as new image)
Naturally, you end up typing anyway, unless you have a scanner utility
that can read the image and extract the text.
it is truly lame that windows system error messages can not be blockedI do have the Windows "Snipping tool" so I'll use that.

As an alternative, Print Screen is also your friend.Sometimes just clicking away from an error message will close it. To
get round this problem I now use a digital camera to take a photo of the
screen when an error message appears. That way the message is
immediately stored. If necessary you can download the *.jpg from the
camera to the PC and either display and retype it or just used the saved
file for reference.
How about taking screen shots?Often the copy& paste will not work for the text in error messages.

I mentioned that a few hours before your post. Get familiar with PrintHow about taking screen shots?
I frequently copy data, open an Office application, and paste the dataSometimes it's because "how you do it", for instance you open an Office
application to paste into. Office fires off its own clipboard, and what
you copied is no longer available. Try pasting into Notepad instead.
Perhaps you already have another Office application open. ie. Outlook orI frequently copy data, open an Office application, and paste the data
into it, without any problem.
Not at all.Perhaps you already have another Office application open. ie. Outlook or
Excel is open and you copy something and open Word? That will do the
effect you see.
Humm, then maybe the new Office clipboard subsumes the Windows clipboardNot at all.
Furthermore, I had already retried it earlier today, carefully paying
attention to my actions so as to make sure I hadn't misremembered what I
had done.
If it hadn't worked I would have reported it here, I promise.
Not new. I have Office 2003.Humm, then maybe the new Office clipboard subsumes the Windows clipboard
now. That would be a nice fix.
Like you, I use Office 2003 and my experience matches yours. I didn'tNot new. I have Office 2003.
I should have mentioned that in my first post here, sorry about that -
rather careless, I have to admit.
Done some more testing, I was mistaken. It isn't Office apps (exceptNot new. I have Office 2003.

No problema.Done some more testing, I was mistaken. It isn't Office apps (except
Excel in some configurations) that is doing the erasing. It is when some
applications are closed that the clipboard is cleared. If you have one
of the apps that do that, then if you copy, close the app then go to
paste the clipboard is empty. Anyway I've been opening both source and
target apps for copy paste to preclude loss of contents for quite awhile
now. Anyway sorry for the confusion.
