word doc opens blank from network

Hi,

Any insight appreciated: One Win7 Ent/SP1 machine of vive in a workgroup: User tries opening a Word file from a network share (whether in regular or safe mode), and the file opens blank. Other users on other machines can open the file and see its contents. Other, non-office files (PDFs, JPSs) open fine. Can open the file and see its contents using a URL but double-clicking on the filename in a mapped drive opens blank.
