Open media player. If you don't have "file - view - play - tools -
help" near the top left, click the "alt" key. Then from the upper list,
choose "help" - "about windows media player".

There's also a "check for updates" selection on the "help" menu.

All I see along the top is Organize, Stream, Create playlist. Below are
folders like Library-> Music, Playlist, Videos, ...

Ctrl + M will show you the Menu Bar.

I've heard that WPM is DRM-compliant. True or not?

Hi, W.

As Leala said, when you see that bar with "Organize, Stream, Create...",
just press <Ctrl>+<M>. This will toggle the Menu bar off and on, offering
the more-familiar "File, View, Play, Tools, Help". (It's very unobtrusive,
so it's easy to overlook, but it should be there. Or, just press the <Alt>
key for a drop-down version of the same thing.) Click Help and then About
Windows Media Player. I'm running Win8, so I see Version:
12.0.9200.16420

If you see something different, please tell us which version of Windows you
are using: WinXP, Vista, Win7, Win8 or ???

As it turns out a problem I was having in an avi file is that the file
is corrupt.

Thanks, useful info. I use VLC and Classic Player most of the time. No
DRM issues (so far).
But in the UK, neither will play the BBC's saved iPlayer 'watch again'
TV programmes (which usually expire after a couple of weeks). As far as
I can see, you have to use WMP.
