WLM not saving sent posts

I've been using Windows Live Mail for e-mail and Usenet, and while WLM saves
copies of my outbound mail in the sent items folder (I have that box checked
in Tools>Options>Send) it isn't saving my Usenet posts as Outlook Express
did. Is there a box somewhere I've left unchecked?

?Hi, DGDevin.

WLMail usually has multiple Sent Items folders. There should be one for
EACH mail account, plus a single one for all Usenet accounts. Look for this
latter Sent Items folder under Storage Folders. I'm using the Wave 4 beta
(build 15x), which has a Storage Folders icon on the View Ribbon. As I
recall, in Wave 3 (which you are using), click View | Layout and click to
Show Storage Folders.

Hmmm, well I didn't find it there. But it got me looking around, and sure
enough I found the storage folders. I was used to OE putting mail and news
posts in one place. Thanks for the tip, it got me looking and I managed to
trip over the answer. I guess that's actually an improvement over OE, mail
probably doesn't belong in the same bin as Usenet blathering. Thanks.

?Hi, DG.

I'm glad you found Storage Folders - and the other Sent Items, even if my
instructions weren't precise. I'm a big fan of the "looking around" method
of learning and managing. ;<) It's amazing how quickly I've forgotten the
Wave 3 UI that I used for a couple of years until just a month ago. ;^}

One more critical thing you should know about Sent Items - and all the other
folders under each Mail Account: They disappear when you remove the
Account! :>(

We all need to Remove a Mail Account now and then. When we give WLM that
instruction, we get a familiar "are you sure?" question box. As usual, we
just click 'OK" and the account is gone. THEN we notice that all the emails
we've received in that account and stored on our hard drive also are GONE!
:>( This includes all the subfolders under the Mail Account: Inbox,
Drafts, Sent items, Junk email and Deleted items!

If we go back and read that "are you sure" box again, we see the simple
sentence hidden in the midst of the boilerplate: '...your messages will be
permanently deleted when you remove this account." THEN we see the advice
to "move them to a storage folder before you remove this account." But it's
too late.

So, you might want to create one or more Storage Folders now to hold email
from this account, and to create Mail Rule(s) to transfer incoming mail to
those folders as they arrive. And to periodically move Sent Items from the
Mail Account folder to one you create under Storage Folders.

That's a useful tip. I try to archive old e-mail messages from time to
time, but I don't do it religiously. I'll have to keep that in mind.

I'm really bad about remembering to do tasks like that, so I'm glad to
have the Auto-Archive capability in Outlook to look after me. Does WLM
also have Auto-Archive, perhaps?

No it doesn't auto-archive messages like Outook does. Nor does it
have any message rules to where you could set up a filter to delete or
move messages that are a specified age either. It's message filters
are nowhere near as extensive as what's in Outlook, but then as they
say, you get what you pay for. :)
