Windows Update Craziness

R

Ricky Jimenez

I have a Win7 Professional operating system with Service Pack 1
installed.

On the following dates, Windows Update tried to install update
(KB2635973) for Microsoft Visual Station with the following outcomes:

1/26 Failed,
2/2 Successful,
2/9 Canceled,
2/13 Successful

When I let it install the update during shutdown, the machine doesn't
turn itself off, as promised, so I have to keep my finger on the power
button. Why in the world does it keep trying to install the same
update? Anybody have an idea what is going on? Thanks.

Hi, Ricky.
When I let it install the update during shutdown, the machine doesn't turn
itself off, as promised, so I have to keep my finger on the power button.
How long did you wait? Minutes? Hours? Sometimes it takes a very long
time - a half-hour or even more - with little or no feedback. But if we
power off instead of waiting, then it has to start the process all over
again next time.

On the two occasions that it hung when trying to do this particular
update it was running for over 3 hours before I gave up and hit the
power button.

It seems others are also having this issue - try a google for "KB2635973 problem"

Try manually downloading and installing it:

If it still fails, one possible solution here (see response by TJ PARCELite):
