Windows Media Player question

Can someone please tell me how to stop WMP making a sound whenever I do
something, like open the program, select a song, close the program,
etc.? I thought it was in control panel under sounds or something but I
just can't seem to find it. Old age strikes again. Thanks in advance.

Probably in WMP itself, but you might look at the sounds control panel
in case I'm wrong.

One easy way to get to that panel is to right-click on the speaker icon
in the System Tray (AKA Notification Area) and choose Sounds from the
pop-up menu.

Maybe you left your television on. I've never heard of such a problem and
non-existent sounds.

Media Center > Tasks > Settings > General
Visual and Sound effects > Play sounds when navigating Windows Media Center.

Sorry, I read Media Center instead of Media Player! :-(
Ignore previous post.

Is there a chance WMP is "throwing an error" of some sort, and the
sound effect you hear is a notification thing ?

When you open WMP there is a little, itty, bitty speaker symbol on the
bottom right of the WMP controls. If you put your cursor on it it
will say "mute" - then you can do whatever you want with it.

In this way you will only mute WMP and not every sound in your
computer.
