Windows Live Mail

Since I started using Win7 and Live Mail, when I reply to a post there is no
right arrow ( > ) to indicate previous posts I'm answering to.

I can't find anywhere to turn this on. Has this been eliminated, or can I
just not find where to make it work?

thanks,
David

Windows Live Mail is a pretty duff Usenet client because it does not
follow the de factor Usenet rules

All indents have to be added manually.

It is duff, duff, duff.
There's a chap here who deserves a star badge. He's written a quotefix
script for it;

Worth a try, I suppose, if you have the time and the wish.

Proper quoting was dropped (AIUI - I don't use it) in WLM version 15. I
think there are places you can download earlier versions; there is also
http://www.dusko-lolic.from.hr/wlmquote/, which apparently fixes a lot
of the shortcomings (including that one) in WLM that OE-Quotefix and
Outlook-Quotefix did for OE and OL (not the 2010 versions). Since you're
using (I think) WLM, that may be less of a change for you (and fix other
faults?) than changing to another client.

The last version of WLM that quotes properly was ver.14
You can get it here:

In its wisdom, Microsoft decided newsgroups were low down on its
priority list so invented Live Mail. Great if you have several email
and webmail accounts and use Instant Messaging, like to swap photos,
subscribe to RSS feeds or write a blog. But a big no-no for newsgroups.

The quote '>' feature was removed during the last beta of Windows Live Mail 2011. It was broke in the previous betas...rather than
fix it or address support problems due to the lack of functionality the feature was removed..doing so allowed one common answer by
MSFT Support personnel in the Microsoft Support forums - 'Feature removed, design intent'. The only current MSFT products that
support/provide the feature are Outlook and the web interface (Hotmail or Outlook.com).

Live Mail's design intent was not due to a disregard for Nttp groups that trend occurred earlier.
Live Mail's primary purpose was for use with Hotmail type accounts (Hotmail, Live, and MSN.com) and synchronization of the Hotmail
type accounts contact and calendar. A second primary intent was the ability to collect telemetric data on the cloud integration
features of the product (contacts, calendar, photo email via SkyDrive).

In the near future Windows Live Messenger will be deprecated (early 2013) and replaced with Skype (another MSFT product).
