Q

i have only just discovered (after two years!) that W7 has a program called
Windows Journal. Does anyone here have a use for this program and where is
is based?
I am using it from a file on my desktop but have no idea where it is
situated.

Click Start and type into the Run/search box the word journal, then
r-click on the "Windows Journal" item and select "Properties", the
"Shortcut" tab contains "Target" location.

Talks about fixing it on Windows XP (and where it is). Probably the
same for Windows 7.

Because it was designed for use on a tablet PC, it accepts handwriting
input. Other than that, and besides what the articles tell you or
searching Microsoft's site for help articles, I don't know what else it
does. I don't use it. Don't personally know anyone that does.

Indispensable Program

I have been using Lenovo Tablet since 2006 and Windows Journal is the most widely used program. Actually, I am about to get my new X220T with Windows 7 and am kind of worry that W7 does not support Journal. Anyways, I often convert documents (PDF's, Word, Excel- anything) by printing it to Journal. Then I can begin to write on it in the program. If installed correctly (see http://www.7tutorials.com/first-steps-using-windows-journal), it will be one of the printer that you can select at the print window.

I use it on a daily basis to manage my notes from the many work meetings that I have. Each note is saved in the appropriate folder as a document that I can retrieve later. Once you get into the habit of using this (like me), you will see the advantage. I recently discovered OneNote. I am exploring what it can do but it is not the same and may be too complicated for my purpose. It is just like writing in a note book except you can move things around and if needed, it has hand writing recognition that may convert your hand written note into type notes. The hand writing recognition does not work for me as I have terrible penmanship. You can even draw on it (again just like on a piece of paper). Very helpful working with a bunch of architects and engineers... a picture says a thousand words

I hope this helps and maybe start a movement so Windows does not eliminate Journal from future issue of OS.
