Windows defender

Hi,
I've just installed Windows 7 and Windows Defender won't launch : a
window appears telling that the program is not reachable ("Application
introuvable" in my french version), the title of this window is
"Explorer.exe". I've changed the "ProgramFilesDir" key in the register
to install the programs elsewhere.
Some help?

If you've installed Microsoft Security Essentials, that disables Windows
Defender. If you haven't installed MSE, maybe you want to?

Many security programs disable WD, not just MSE. The reason is they have
the same functions and make WD redundant.

So we can uninstall Defender if MSE are installed? Why isn't that
automatic?

Windows Defender is a part of the Win7 operating system and cannot be
uninstalled.

No you can't uninstall it, it just sits there, disabled.

It's not just Microsoft Security Essentials. AVG, Norton, McAfee, and
others do the same thing. Defender duplicates what they do, and you
shouldn't be doing the same thing twice. It has no benefit, and can
hurt your performance.
