Windows 7 & Windows Mail

Hi, a little help with a problem please. I installed a clean copy of Windows
7 a while ago but did not want to use Windows Live Mail, I wanted windows
mail (from Vista). I managed to get this working OK but not exactly a proper
installation. Everything seemed to work OK, all that is except when I click
a mail link on a web page. I get "Could not perform this operation because
the default mail client is not properly installed", I've had a look at the
Default Programs but do not see a mail client listed (due I'm sure to the
method of WM installation). Anyone know how I can get Windows Mail working
when I click a web link? Any help appreciated.

Try manually setting the browser mail client to the mail package that
you installed?

Hi Chuck, I tried that (Tools>General tab>Make default) but no joy, after
changing "This application is NOT default Mail handler" to "This application
is the default Mail handler" and OK'ing it I go back into it and it goes
back to "This application is NOT default Mail handler".

Hey David,
I also could not use Windows Live Mail so I pulled Windows Mail across from
my old Vista laptop. Then I ran two files - "Windows Mail.reg" and "Windows
Mail2.reg." that someone made available. Together, they solved every
problem you describe. Windows Mail now runs like it belongs in W7. If you
will Google "Windows Mail.reg" you will find a variety of places you can
download these files from. They modify the registry, so you will receive
many cautions. I ignored them and both files worked. Good luck. Let us
know your results, here, please, to help others.
