Windows 7 vulnerability

Theirs More
Microsoft Windows 7, when running on 64-bit platforms, allows local users
to cause a denial of service (crash), as demonstrated using "Browse with
Irfanview" and certain actions on a folder containing a large number of
thumbnail images in "Resample" mode, possibly related to the ATI graphics
driver, cdd.dll, or win32k.sys.

No, not correct. They both do.

But it is new and almost specific to Windows 7. And I'd rather read it ten
times in different places than not at all.

And this isn't a forum - it's a newsgroup.

Please don't post god knows how many individual MS security advisories to
this forum. Geeze... You've got tens of thousands still left that that
have not been posted here.

True, and I reply with bottom posting except where the reply to the OP has
been made with top posting. It makes little sense to respond to that reply
with bottom posting, effectively splitting the message into a nonsense order
where you want to keep all the message information.

That's a good point, as the poster that did the top-post in
the first place is most likely expecting that.

I think the bigger issue was that MS Live Mail put the quoted
text below the delimiter. As you can see, the OPs context is
now lost because a compliant newsreader does not include the
OPs sig & delimiter when you select 'Reply' or 'Followup', as
I did here or Alias did before.

Instead of splitting the message, it deletes the text of the
original message. So if that was important info that may be of
use in a later post in the same thread, you would need to go
back and re-read messages to find the missing info.

(This is just FYI. I don't care one way or the other. I'm not
defending anyone, my 'panties arent in a bunch', or whatever
other sayings some persons may use to personally attack me.)

Indeed. If you top post, most likely that's your default, and you either
want it that way, don't know the difference, or don't know/care about the
convention.

Still, at least WLM offers the option of top or bottom posting, whereas OE
didn't, and Quotefix was required for automatic bottom-posting.

How very true... ;-)))

Jeff,
Haven't seen you post much so I assume you're new to the group. Don't let
either of them get to you, they constantly try to disrupt the ng with rants
about Unix and now it looks like they have nothing better to do than look
for netiquette, when they don't know what it is to start with.

You mean you haven't got a Troll Alarm icon in the Notification Area that
flashes when one is detected? I thought everyone had one. ;-)))

I've had Win7 only a few months, but have made a few posts. Had 3.1/NT4/XP
for many years, so trolls are nothing new. I'm still undecided as to
whether or not Bill Gates is a troll...

I hope you are not including me in that grouping of 'either', as

1) I do nothing to disrupt this group. Any posts I make are in
threads started by others, and usually several levels deep at
least.

2) I've never raved anything about Unix.

3) I've never made any wild claims about Linux superiority over
Windows, or how it's going to take over or anything like that.
The only thing I ever say is superior is the fact that while
using Linux, my PC isn't going to be infected with the couple
hundred thousand Windows malware/trojan/worm packages.

4) My typical post about Linux is just correcting mis-
information about it stated by others, in threads that are
already OT by others, (and usually several levels deep).

5) My comment in this thread about all text following the
delimiter not being included in followups was not me 'looking
for netiquette'. The topic was already netiquette there, and I
merely added a detail that many don't realize happens.

Whatever he is, he is rich. Pretty generous too, as I understand it he gives
away almost 50% of what he makes to charities, including his own.

He's not. Microsoft became the Home of the Trolls when Steve "Monkey
Man" Ballmer took over. Had Gates stayed with the company, Microsoft
would have a much better future.

You really don't know much do you? Ballmer didn't "take over" he was
simply allowed to run things on a day to day basis to let the Top Dog
drive around doing what likes instead of having to come in the office
every morning and sort out problems.

Has Steve divested himself of the billion shares of Microsoft shares ?
