Windows 7 updates

For several weeks now I have repeatedly received 2 (repeat 2) Windows 7
updates when I shut down my computer.
This is very odd because in the past the number of updates has varied from
day to day.
Can anyone suggest if there is a problem.

Grateful for any suggestions.

Just checked, mine is up to date.

It looks like your Windows is trying to complete an update, which IMO
suggests a bad download. Or else malware. So I would:

a) try Windows Update manually.
b) get a couple or three additional anti-malware programs, disconnect
from the web, install, and run each one separately.

Anti-malware: Malware Bytes Anti-Malware, Vipre (free trial), Kapersky
(free trial), Spybot Search & Destroy (free), Windows Security
Essentials. If you have Norton, make sure it's up-to-date.

If neither of the above cures the problem, you'll have to go back to an
earlier state of Windows, and update manually. Come back for info on how
to do that.

And turn off Automatic Update: do it manually, and choose only the ones
you need.

Good luck,
Wolf K.

It might be useful if you mentioned what the two updates actually are!
I have one system that occasionally balks with 4.0 framework updates.
So far, other later windows updates have "fixed" whatever the problem
was, and eventually, the framework update "takes".

Open Windows Update in Control Panel. Next to 'Update were installed:'
click the 'View update history' link.

*Specifically*, which 2 updates repeatedly install ?

Thanks for all your suggestions.
I think I have now fixed the problem by cancelling the unwanted updates, one
of which was related to the Bing Bar, which I do not want. A second one was
'Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack2 for x64-based
Systems (KB973688)' for which the Status was indicated as 'Successful'
Both were logged as having been repeatedly sent for the past 2 months. I
have a 64 bit system, but don't understand whether this relates to my
computer. I was away on vacation prior to this and the computer was shut
down, so it looks like MS were making up for lost time.
Can't be 100% certain that I have actually remedied the problem; will have
to watch it over the next few days.
