I want to upgrade from Vista Ultimate 64-bit to Windows 7. Does the Windows 7 Ultimate software automatically recognize that I have a 64-bit system or do I have to buy a specific version of Windows 7 software that is 64-bit compatible?

Hi NORTHPD1 - Welcome to w7forums

If you buy a OEM version, you will need to make sure you are getting the correct bit version. The retail version in the box comes with both DVD's and you can select which version you want to install from the same key.

Please note, even though it has both versions in the same box. You are only allowed to use one at a time with the license agreement.
