Windows 7 Pro and CD Burning

Is there a way to burn a CD using WMP in the XP version of Win 7 Pro? There
are 2 burners that work fine with Windows 7, but don't seem to be recognized
by XP Virtual in Win 7 Pro. Any way around this (besides copying the files
back to Win 7)?

I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but I end up thinking of this:

*In the XP VM*, download a CD burner program and install it there. I
would think that it would work as expected.

I'm not set up to try that myself.

Doesn't WMP have a CD burning program?

There is an IMAPI 2 driver you can install for WinXP (which should
install in the VM), but I have no idea whether this question even
makes sense or not.

Can the WinXP Mode VM actually "see" the optical drives well enough,
to run burner software ?

I was running Imgburn inside VPC2007 (which is similar to the version
of Virtual PC inside Windows 7 that you're using), and Imgburn refused
to work properly with the "emulated" CD interface. I wasn't even burning,
and was just trying to convert a CD to ISO9660. Which is why I question
whether the extra effort is going to pay off or not. It's probably not going
to hurt anything, to try.

Once I used Imgburn outside the VM environment, what I was doing
worked just fine on the first try.

For some reason, I have two related bookmarks, but for the life of
me, I can't remember what the relationship between these is. These
have something to do, with extending the burning features of WinXP
past what was provided in service packs. Maybe someone else knows
how these relate to one another. I almost get the impression the
second one just adds BluRay burning or something. Not really sure...

XP comes with its own CD/DVD wizard. It doesn't work in the XP Mode to
which you refer ("XP version of Win 7 Pro")?

It's been a while since I actually used XPmode, but I seem to recall
that there was a setting one had to change to allow the virtual machine
to be able to use a cd/dvd burner. Then again I may be thinking of
VirtualBox, but I do know it's not VMWare Player which is what I use
now.

I know VMware Workstation has direct access. Player, maybe?

[snip one of many suggestions]

Side step the issue, and get DeepBurner, ImgBurn, or any of several
other free or low-cost burners.

http://deepburner.com/
http://www.imgburn.com/

Search on "free dvd cd burning software" for many more suggestions.
FWIW, I started with free DeepBurner, then moved to Pro version, cheap
enough for my wallet, does everything I want.

Have a good day,
