I run Windows 7 Professional and have recently started to have a problem with WMP
I put a CD or DVD into the DVD/CD unit, it does not autorun I double click on the disc and it will not play, although the disk is being recognised as a CD or DVD
If I go into WMP using a CD it goes into the a white screen (if I go into WMP before I put the disc in it will go into rip mode and if I click on a track it will play) but it says there is no disc in the drive I then eject the disc and then push the tray back in and the disc is recognised and it will play after the playlist is built up.
When I put a DVD it does exactly the same thing BUT when I go into the playlist it will then play, when I take the DVD out the PC remains in WMP and I can then put a CD in and it will autoplay normally.
It will go back to the FAULTY mode when I exit WMP and then put another disc in.
Autoplay is turn on for Audio discs, Enhanced Audio discs, also for DVDs.
Any help would be gratefully accepted on this problem.

The problem may not be WMP at all; it's quite possible your DVDRom is going bad and needs replaced. I would at least try a CD/DVD lens cleaner kit.

There is a WMP Fix-it tool you can try HERE

Also, I don't think this will check WMP files (since they are in Program Files) but it will verify your OS files so it's a good idea just to also do:
Microsoft said:
  1. Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
  2. Type the following command, and then press ENTER: sfc /scannow
The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

Hi

Thanks for the reply to my problem with WMP 12, as yet I have not been able get out to try a new CD/DVD unit but will be doing it soon, with regard to SRC /SCANNOW I did this a day or two ago and it made no difference.
Since placing the enquiry on the forum I have found something else out.

Put a CD in the CD unit and WMP does not start, eject the CD, start WMP, and the rip screen comes up, then down it the bottom RHS of the screen is an icon consisting of 4 small squares, clicking on this brings up the normal PLAYING mode, reinsert the CD and it plays normally.

I don't know if this last part is normal or not, I have never noticed the icon before.
Any further help would be appriciated.

Regards

Bill
