Windows 7 issue

I have Win 7/64 pro and am fairly happy with it with an exception:

Every time I receive a notice (at the bottom of the screen) about
"Windows updates available, click here", I only move the mouse even
slightly and the click-me pop up instantly disappears.

This makes it impossible to click the pop up.

This problem also happens with similar pop up statements from some other
softwares, but not all of them.

Is this really how it works for everyone or am I special?

How do I fix this short of switching to Linux?

Wilby.

I Googled for notification timeout and found this on page 1:

Gene:

Thanks! I guess I didn't know what to call it. I'll play with this and
see what happens.
It took me a few tries to come up with a search that worked, both in
Windows Help and on Google :)
I'm suspecting that it isn't the answer I need because I can read the
notifications all i want, but the instant I touch the mouse, the note is
gone.

I'll check this out anyway.

Yeah, it sounds like the wrong thing, given what you say. Sorry...

Like someone else said, I suspect you simply have that icon set as
Hidden. Click to expand the hidden icons and it's probably in there.
You can use the Customize link to make it show, if you prefer.

Just run Windows Update from the Control Panel when you get a notice
is one option.

Set your Updates to Automatically Download and Install.

Hi Wilby,

Go to START > Control Panel > System

in the left panel, click Advanced System Settings.

A new System Properties panel will open. Click on the Advanced tab which
will open a Performance Options panel.

On my system I have the "Let Windows choose what's best for my computer"
radio button selected which then ticks everything in the list below apart
from "Save taskbar thumbnail previews".

Anyhoo, one of those checked items in the list will make that notification
speech bubble fade out when you start to move your mouse instead of
instantly vanishing and this fade out time is enough for you to move your
mouse over the notification bubble which will then snap back to full
visibility and will be clickable.

Hope this helps

Forgot to say that you then click the Settings button in the Performance
(Visual effects....) area at the top of the Advanced tab page.

Many people complain about automatic download and install, saying that
it can boot your computer when you have unsaved stuff in an open
program.

I have configured it to notify me adn wait for me to decide, then I
download it and install it when I choose, so I haven't had the above
problem since I made the change (years ago).

I'm unsure whether automatic acts the same way in Windows 7, since I
keep it manual, so maybe you should take my remark with a grain of salt
until someone confirms it.
